Service Support Worker – Emergency Department (3 positions available)

We are looking for a caring and resilient person, who can think on their feet in a pressured environment to join our Independent Living team as a Service Support Worker in Wrexham Maelor Emergency Department.

Based in a fast-paced, busy and intensive Emergency Department, you will provide practical and emotional support to patients. You will carry out non-medical tasks to free up the medical staff to focus on their clinical role and make the visitors’ stay as comfortable as possible.

A day in the life of a Service Support Worker will include:

Escort patients to assigned departments.
Collecting prescriptions to speed up their release.
Provide emotional support/pastoral care while they await treatment.
Provide emotional support to close friends and families.
Ensure that patients have food/drink when waiting for long hours and assist with food distribution during mealtimes.
Driving patients home after discharge and making sure they are safely settled at home.
Refer patients to other sources of support in the community.

Please note that this service runs from Monday to Sunday (including bank holidays) and the successful candidate will be expected to commit to shifts of up to 10 hours (flexible days).

To be a successful Service Support Worker, you will need to:

Know how to improve the quality of service for the benefit of users, dealing with inquiries in a diplomatic and confidential manner.
Good knowledge of services provided by the NHS and Social Care.
Education up to GCSE level (or equivalent by experience).
Be IT literate.
A full UK driving license which allows you to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
