UNFPA is inviting talented Communication Experts to apply for our upcoming Surge Workshop in Senegal in April 2024 . This transformative training and assessment experience is focused on honing skills in different areas of humanitarian response with special attention to infectious diseases.
Candidates who attend the workshop and pass the assessment will be added to the UNFPA Surge Response Roster used for rapid deployment of experts as part of our humanitarian response activities around the world.

If you are passionate about working in humanitarian response with UNFPA and eager to enhance your capabilities, we encourage you to submit your application by January 19, 2024 . Experts selected for the roster will be considered for deployment to emergencies to:
- help enhance the information flow and visibility of UNFPA emergency assistance while highlighting sexual and reproductive health, gender and gender-based violence in humanitarian response.
- seek stories and photos/videos of affected women and young people,
- place UNFPA stories in digital and print media,
- ensure UNFPA visibility in UNOCHA situation reports,
- contribute to the UNFPA social media platforms,
- contribute to the UNFPA situation report,
- support national efforts and local campaigns,
- advise the UNFPA Representative on available opportunities to strengthen UNFPA’s media presence.
Qualifications and Skills required:
- Advanced degree in communications, public relations, journalism, advertising or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism or advertising; preferably some experience with public relations or information campaigns.
- Experience in or familiarity with a humanitarian setting is a major asset.
- Proficiency in French is required and working knowledge of English is strongly preferred.

The experts selected to join the pool will be pre-selected for deployment in emergency situations in order to:
- help improve information flow and visibility of UNFPA emergency assistance while highlighting sexual and reproductive health (SRH), gender and gender-based violence (GBV) in the humanitarian response.
- search for journeys and photos/videos of affected women and young people
- placing UNFPA stories in digital and print media
- ensure the visibility of UNFPA in OCHA situation reports,
- contribute to UNFPA social media platforms,
- contribute to the UNFPA situation report,
- support national efforts and local campaigns,
- advise the UNFPA Representative on opportunities available to strengthen UNFPA’s media presence.
Qualifications and skills required
- Advanced degree in communications, public relations, journalism, advertising or a related field.
- More than 5 years of experience in the field of communications, public relations, journalism or advertising; preferably experience in public relations or information campaigns.
- Experience in a humanitarian context or good knowledge of it is a major asset.
- Fluent French required and fluency in English.
