Surge Training Officer (m/f/d)
The position is based in the DRK General Secretariat in Berlin in the Surge & Readiness Unit of the International Cooperation Division.
The German Red Cross deploys immediate and emergency relief personnel at short notice to international missions organised by the German Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). This enables us to support the affected population as quickly as possible after crises and disasters. The Surge Training Officer (m/f/d) provides organisational support for training courses for emergency aid personnel in preparation for their missions abroad. In this way, the officer makes an important contribution to increasing GRC’s operational readiness for international missions. The position of the Surge Training Officer is part of the global project financed by the German Federal Foreign Office, through which the German Red Cross is endeavouring to increase its operational readiness for international emergency aid missions.
Do you enjoy organising training courses and events and interacting with training participants from all over the world? We are looking for a colleague with excellent planning and organisational skills who is passionate about humanitarian aid and enjoys carrying out administrative tasks in a meaningful environment.
The position is full-time (39 hours per week). The employment offer is initially limited to 30.06.2026.
Your tasks:
- Administrative preparation, implementation and follow-up of training courses for international emergency aid delegates, as well as other events organised by the department
- Participant travel and training material management / event management
- In presence support at the majority of the Surge & Readiness Unit training courses (approx. 5 training courses per year, each lasting approx. one week)
- Administrative tasks (procurement, travel bookings, financial administration) and support with reporting
- Supporting the planning, evaluation and development of Surge training courses
- Cooperation with other departments and teams within GRC, our sister organisations, IFRC and ICRC and other partners
Your profile:
- Completed further or higher education followed by at least one year of work experience
- Practical experience in the organisation of events and / or the implementation of training courses
- Ability to work well in a team, service orientation and excellent organisational and planning skills as well as the interest and ability to initiate new processes and implement established processes with confidence
- Fluency in written and spoken English (C1); fluent German (B2); other foreign language skills are an advantage
- Flexibility and willingness to travel within Germany and to work at weekends
- Knowledge of the work and experience in humanitarian aid, especially within the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is an advantage
