Sustainable Forest Management Specialist (H/F) At Expertise France

The consultant must teach part of the course defined in Module I, specifically the contents described in the Sustainable Forest Management sub-module, as listed below:

  • General concepts of MFS and Low Impact Exploration;
  • National legislation on MFS (CONAMA Resolution 406/2009);
  • Types of MFS (Business, Community, Simplified);
  • Forest Certification;
  • Benefits generated by the MFS (economic, social and environmental);
  • MFS in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals;
  • Successful MFS experiences.

The contents can be modified/complemented at the suggestion of the consultant, as long as there is approval from the project coordination. The contractor will have a total of 16 hours to address the above-listed contents, including time for knowledge fixation exercises. express the content in a clear and didactic way, seeking the involvement of students and answering the questions raised. The course will be taught in online format, with the participation of 55 students (there may be a variation in this number), all public servants of environmental agencies with acting in Sustainable Forest Management in the Amazon. It is important to emphasize that the course will be fully recorded. The videos with the classes will be made available on Ibama’s Distance Learning (EAD) platform (https://escolavirtual.ibama.gov.br//), and will be available to new students on the platform.

The course will have monitors to organize classes and discussions.

The consultant will perform their skills in the following areas (non-exhaustive tasks):

a) Preparation of 1 sub-module for distance training:

Preparation of a sub-module on MFS under Module I – Sustainable forest management and climate change.

The sub-module must include at least the following topics:

  • · General concepts of MFS and Low Impact Exploration;
  • · National legislation on MFS (CONAMA Resolution 406/2009);
  • · Types of MFS (business, community, simplified);
  • · Forestry Certification;
  • Benefits generated by the MFS (economic, social and environmental); MFS in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals;
  • Successful MFS experiences.

b) Realization of virtual classes Virtual classes live in Portuguese.

The teacher must have the basic tools to teach the classes (connection platform, virtual pedagogical tools that he intends to use during the class…).

c) Carrying out assessments

Carry out a skills assessment at the beginning of the course (assess students’ prior knowledge).

Conduct a final knowledge assessment for participants

d) Follow-up to coordination/preparation meetings

The specialist must follow up on the coordination and preparation meetings of the sub-module with the EF and the local team in Brazil.

Expected results of the consultant:

Preparation of a Lesson Plan at least two weeks before the course;

Preparation of exercises to be applied during the course, with the objective of establishing the knowledge and evaluation of the student;

Teaching the indicated topics in 16 hours of class online.

Modes of execution

The activities covered by this contract can be carried out remotely, through the use of videoconference. Classes will start on December 6th, and end on December 17th (half-day for two weeks).

Education, knowledge and experience

  • · Master’s or Postgraduate Degree in Sustainable Forest Management or relevant professional experience in the area
  • · At least 10 years of professional experience in the Sustainable Forest Management area, mainly in Teaching in Sustainable Forest Management;
  • · Good knowledge of authorization processes in Sustainable Forest Management;
  • · Knowledge of legislation involving Sustainable Forest Management;
  • · Knowledge in Low Impact Exploration techniques;
  • · Forest Certification Knowledge;
  • · Knowledge of successful experiences in Sustainable Forest Management;

Abilities and Skills

· Great ability to transmit knowledge in a didactic way;

· Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms;

How to apply

Additional information:

  • Type of contract: Service provision contract (fees/day).
  • Starting date: November 22, 2021.
  • Duration: maximum 15 working days in a period of 40 calendar days (16 hours of classes + preparatory meetings + preparation of class.)
  • Fees: To be negotiated.
  • Payment: 50% of the fees for products 1, 2 and 3 and 50% will be paid after the conclusion of the classes.
