Know our team

Nutrition International promotes an evidence-based approach to advocacy, decision making, multi-sectoral country planning, and the setting of nutrition agendas. The Global Technical Services (GTS) Unit is Nutrition International’s Centre of Technical Excellence. The GTS Unit, based in Ottawa, leads on the quality assurance of and technical support to Nutrition International’s research and programs to influence and improve national and global policies and practice. Currently, Nutrition International is seeking applications for a Technical Advisor, Adolescent Nutrition & Implementation Research to be based in Ottawa, Canada; note that this position may also be based in Pakistan due to the nature of the project.

About the role

As a Technical Advisor, you will play a critical role in our new collaborative implementation research project in Pakistan, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This project aims to evaluate the Effectiveness of Adolescent Nutrition CCT Pilot and make a significant impact on adolescent nutrition and well-being in Pakistan. Key Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to support implementation research and related programming.
  • Collaborate with project teams to conceptualize, design, conduct, analyze, and interpret research findings.
  • Ensure the quality assurance of project deliverables and provide key updates to stakeholders.
  • Stay updated with the latest knowledge and best practices in the field of adolescent nutrition.
  • Prepare and disseminate knowledge products for internal and external audiences.
  • Contribute to peer-reviewed publications and documentation to share project findings.
  • Represent Nutrition International externally, including international meetings, publications, and policy advocacy.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with partners to maximize project impact and build strategic relationships.

About you

You should have a postgraduate degree (masters/doctorate) in a health-related field such as nutrition, public health, implementation science, or social science. This educational background equips you with a comprehensive understanding of health systems and social safety net programs.

With a minimum of five years of experience in conducting implementation research in low and middle-income countries, you have a proven track record in designing, analyzing, and disseminating research focused on population or public health. Your expertise extends to the domain of adolescent, child, and maternal nutrition, and you possess a deep understanding of the complexities related to girls’ and women’s health, nutrition, and gender equality. You are adept at applying both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including participatory research methods. Additionally, you have a strong background in providing technical assistance to various stakeholders and fostering collaborative partnerships to achieve shared objectives.

In addition to your education and experience, you possess exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, and are fluent in English. You have a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences, including policymakers, researchers, and the general public. Your knowledge of implementation research, coupled with your awareness of the latest best practices in the field, allows you to contribute innovative approaches to nutrition programs. You thrive in cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural team settings, displaying a high level of efficiency and independence while collaborating with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and locations.
