Technical Advisor At Last Mile Health

The Role

At Last Mile Health, we are all teachers and learners. Do you have demonstrated experience supporting programs and engaging with multiple stakeholders in a health setting? If so, you might be our next Technical Advisor.

Reporting to the Program Director, the Technical Advisor (STA), will play a critical role in supporting programming by coordinating and engaging partners within Sierra Leone. The TA will lead engagement with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) around development of education content, monitoring and evaluation systems, and will advocate for integration of digital education strategies in support of the National Community Health Worker (NCHW) program. The TA will engage and coordinate with a range of stakeholders, LMH colleagues, and MoHS digital health and community health divisions to address critical gaps in community health programming.

Throughout their employment with Last Mile Health, the TA will support on a variety of projects and efforts to promote LMH’s vision to establish stronger, sustainable community health programs across Sierra Leone through high-quality training for the health leaders, community health workers, supervisors, and managers who deliver health services to the last mile and beyond.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee government engagement around the NCHW Program. Build and sustain effective close working partnerships with government counterparts and national stakeholders through active sharing of information and knowledge.
  • Provide technical assistance to the MOH’s Technical Working Group (TWG) including mobilizing stakeholders, advocating for LMH priorities, and maintaining TWG meeting minutes and documentation. Ensure that digital education activities are well represented in MoH policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with the MOH and LMH, CHW hubs, and Programs Teams to support the digitization of CHW training curriculum.
  • Plan and coordinate workshops, meetings, and trainings to coordinate stakeholders and activities.
  • Build capacity to develop and implement MERL plans for community health programming in Sierra Leone; inclusive of evaluation questions, methods, indicators, targets, and analytics.
  • Advise on implementation of data management, quality assurance, and data cleaning procedures.
  • Engage key government stakeholders to ensure MERL plans are fit for purpose and responsive to programmatic priorities and learning needs.
  • Collaborate with the CHW Hub and DPPI for alignment of Indicators on the CHW Program reporting tools with the DHIS2 /HMIS and to also develop a standard supervision template for reporting.
  • Conduct field visits, and other field staff to observe the digital education initiatives in the field.
  • Provide oversight on the execution of country engagements, inclusive of stakeholder management, project management, deliverable tracking, reporting, budget, and knowledge management for projects
  • Provide technical support on the adaptation and/or development data collection tools (e.g., surveys, key informant interview guides, focus group guides) and implement those tools.
  • Advise on implementation of data management, quality assurance, and data cleaning procedures.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Professional experience in public health, curriculum development, and/or digital education
  • Previous experience working in curriculum development, with a focus on designing and implementing health and education systems (preferably digital) for users in rural or low-resource settings
  • Experience designing, implementing, and adapting monitoring and evaluation systems for community health programs. Demonstrated experience in quantitative and qualitative MERL methods.
  • Professional experience in project planning and management in education and/other related areas, preferably in rural or low-resource settings
  • Working knowledge of the National CHW Program Training Curriculum or relevant health curricula
  • Experience in health policy work including experience working with the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health and District Health Teams
  • A balanced understanding of Microsoft Office suite, and the Google suite (Gmail, Google Calendars, Google Drive), along with eagerness to learn new IT concepts and analytic techniques within challenging, real-world conditions

You’ll Impress Us If

  • You can interpret data and explain findings to non-technical audiences.
  • You have practical experience with analytical software and management information system such as DHIS II

The Band for this position: SLE – 3

The base salary range for this position is: $15,000 to $20,000, dependent upon experience doing an equivalent role.
