Technical Advisor At Momentum Wheels for Humanity

Position Summary

The Technical Advisor (TA) is responsible for providing technical leadership and direction to Momentum Wheels for Humanity’s (MWH) programs and activities globally. They will play a pivotal role in guiding the technical aspects of the organization’s programs, ensuring our interventions are evidence-based, sustainable, and aligned with international best practices. The TA will work closely with program teams, partners, and stakeholders to design, implement, and evaluate programs that enhance the mobility and independence of people with disabilities and improve rehabilitation services for all.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Technical Advisor will be responsible for:

  • Technical Leadership
    • Provide high-level technical expertise in the design, implementation, and evaluation of rehabilitation and AT programs.
    • Coordinate with global roster of technical consultants to monitor progress, direction and quality of work and ensure consistency of approach and messaging.
    • Stay current with global best practices and innovations in assistive technology and disability inclusion, integrating these insights into program development and strategies.
  • Program Development and Quality Assurance:
    • Lead the development of technical tools, guidelines, and standards to ensure the quality and consistency of MWH’s programs.
    • Contribute to new business development, ensuring proposals are aligned with international best practices
    • Conduct technical assessments and provide recommendations to optimize program effectiveness and impact.
  • Capacity Building:
    • Mentor and train program staff and partners in technical areas related to assistive technology, rehabilitation , and disability inclusion.
    • Lead or contribute to the development of training programs and workshops for a variety of audiences, including government officials, healthcare providers, and community-based organizations.
  • Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Collaborate with national and international partners, including government agencies, NGOs, and the private sector, to advance shared goals.
    • Represent MWH in technical working groups, conferences, and other forums to advocate for increased access and greater investment in high-quality rehabilitation and AT services
  • Research and Innovation:
    • Lead or support research initiatives aimed at advancing the field of assistive technology and understanding the needs of people with disabilities.
    • Promote innovation by identifying new technologies, approaches, and partnerships that can enhance MWH’s impact.
    • Identify strategic opportunities for knowledge sharing
  • Monitoring and Evaluation:
    • Work with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to develop metrics and indicators to track program outcomes and impact.
    • Conduct field visits and data reviews to ensure that programs are achieving desired results and meeting technical standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Advanced degree in Rehabilitation Sciences, Public Health, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a technical advisory role, preferably in the field of assistive technology, rehabilitation, or disability inclusion.
    • Proven experience in designing and implementing international development programs, with a focus on disability and/or mobility solutions.
    • Strong background in capacity building, with experience delivering training and technical assistance in diverse cultural contexts.
    • Practical field-based experience in project implementation.
  • Skills:
    • Deep understanding of assistive technology, rehabilitation services, and disability inclusion.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and make informed decisions.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
    • Proficiency in project management, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Other:
    • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, up to 30% of the time.

Location: Flexible, based in the United States

Compensation: USD $75,000 to $85,000 per year, depending on experience

Compensation type: Salaried, exempt, paid bi-weekly
