Technical Field Managers – Lebanon Emergency Response Talent Pool

As MAG prepares to scale up our operations in Lebanon, we anticipate an upcoming need for additional, fixed term Technical support from January 2025 onwards. In response, we are actively seeking expressions of interest from Technical Experts who would be interested and available to join MAG’s Emergency Response Talent Pool to support our future activities in Lebanon.

About MAG

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the Lebanon programme

MAG has been operating in Lebanon since 2000, as an international HMA organization working under the supervision of the Lebanese Mine Action Centre (LMAC) and is accredited to implement manual and mechanical clearance on minefields and cluster munition strike areas countrywide. MAG also undertakes Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) activities in communities. Lebanon has an extensive legacy of conflict, and MAG is addressing the contamination left behind in the South, Mount Lebanon and the West Beqaa. The crisis in neighbouring Syria and movement of populations into Lebanon has made this work only more vital, and MAG continues to support both Lebanese and Syrian communities. The recent conflict which took place from October 2023 to November 2024, has exacerbated the UXO contamination in already vulnerable regions. Intense fighting and the use of heavy munitions have left behind new areas of unexploded ordnance, further endangering civilian lives and impeding reconstruction efforts. As an established HMA operator, MAG is adapting swiftly to address this evolving challenge. This includes conducting emergency Non-Technical Survey of the new contamination, deploying clearance teams to high-priority areas, mechanical assets on rubble removal tasks and scaling up risk education initiatives to protect communities from newly contaminated zones. Since 2006, MAG Lebanon has cleared more than 23.1 million square meters of contaminated land and removed more than 70,000 dangerous items, benefitting over 1.9 million people.
