The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an international non-governmental organisation based in Oslo, Norway that works in over 40 countries providing humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable populations. NRC has been responding to the growing internal and external displacement in Central America and Mexico since 2015, focusing on the protection crisis and integrating legal aid, education, shelter and infrastructure, water and sanitation, and livelihoods interventions.
NRC is an organization with a high international reputation in humanitarian assistance and has been working in Latin America for more than 30 years, leading humanitarian action in many of the countries where it operates.
In Mexico, NRC has been collaborating with local partners since 2019 and is now expanding its reach, starting activities through direct implementation in the States of Veracruz, Coahuila and Mexico City, with more than 20 collaborators hired by NRC in Mexico, providing assistance to displaced people in the intervention areas in the country.
1. Objective
This is an exciting opportunity to support the execution of finance functions in NRC’s offices in Mexico. As a Finance Technical Assistant, your main responsibility will be to support the planning, implementation and monitoring of all administrative and accounting actions and responsibilities, mainly recording the organization’s accounting, calculating and issuing payroll, filing returns with SAT and IMSS, ensuring compliance with accounting regulations for the office in Mexico.
2. Main Responsibilities
Document Management, Accounting
- Keep the accounting and financial files (physical and electronic) of the offices up to date.
- Responsible for the archiving and custody of the physical and digital documents generated.
- Know and manage the accounting and financial tools that the NRC has implemented at global and local levels.
- Support with the accounting closing of the offices and the preparation of monthly reports when requested
- Responsible for processing payments to office suppliers and contractors in accordance with the standards established for this purpose by NRC.
- Monitor electronic transfers of program participants on a monthly basis, as well as periodically reconcile transfers.
Tax Processes
- Calculation, determination and presentation of taxes before the SAT in accordance with current regulations.
- Preparation of deductible receipts and invoices.
- Presentation of obligations for Authorized Donors
Roster
- Preparation of payroll and provisions calculation (Christmas bonus, Vacation P.), according to the incidents reported by HR
- Management of employees before the IMSS: 12. Calculation, determination and presentation of worker/employer contributions
- Calculation, determination and presentation of salary taxes (IMSS/INFONAVIT/ISN)
- Calculation of severance pay and compensation
- Stamping of payroll receipts
3. Professional Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Accounting (degree and ID)
- 1 year of experience in Authorized Donors
- 2 years of experience in calculating and filing returns with the SAT
- 2 years of experience in payroll calculation and related procedures
Generic professional skills:
- Experience in humanitarian aid context (desirable)
- Previous experience in complex and volatile contexts
- Basic/intermediate knowledge of the English language, both written and verbal
- Solid knowledge in Accounting
Competencies, knowledge and experience related to the context:
- Knowledge of Financial Reporting Standards
- Experience in managing accounting and payroll systems (NOI/COI/CONPAQ)
- Advanced Excel Skills
- Proficient knowledge of MS Office utilities (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
