The Latin American and Caribbean Coordinator of Small Producers and Fair Trade Workers (CLAC), is an Association established with legal status in El Salvador, which brings together Small Producer Organizations ( as) (OPP’s) and Workers’ Organizations within Fair Trade. CLAC is organized into “National Coordinators” and “Networks”; The former group CLAC member organizations by country, while the Product Networks group organizations by product regardless of the country in which they are located, and the Workers Network groups worker organizations. ) from different countries.

CLAC’s mission is not only to represent democratically organized organizations, but also to ensure their strengthening and development, also to provide assistance to its associates, to promote their products and values, and to influence social, political and economic bodies. CLAC’s strategic lines of work are: 1) Strengthen CLAC’s organizational sustainability, 2) Promote fair trade, its principles and values, 3) Strengthen and develop our membership, 4) Increase access to existing and new markets, 5 ) Advocate for responsible production, trade and consumption to promote sustainable development, 6) Contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through inclusion and the adoption of good social and environmental practices in our membership.

  • About the Sustainable Banana Program (PBS).

It is within the framework of the Sustainable Banana Program (PBS), specifically in the Pillars: 1) Sustainable management of Soil and Water resources; 2) Resilience to Climate Change; and 3) Recovery and Promotion of Biodiversity; The Productivity Increase Project (PIP) is implemented, whose main objective is to support SPOs in the development and implementation of sustainable Fairtrade certified banana production practices, thereby strengthening the capacities of small producers. (as) of banana in different countries, mainly in: a) Practices for improving Soil Health through the production of bio inputs that contribute to increasing the biodiversity of Beneficial Microorganisms in soils; b) Actions and practices for water management for the efficient use of water in the banana value chain; c) Strengthening knowledge and management skills to handle information and develop actions to reduce water and carbon footprints, among others. All of the actions described above are intended for producers and their families to improve their living conditions, as a consequence of reducing costs, increasing productivity in the field and generating greater income.

This process will be developed with organizations of small Fairtrade certified banana producers in the Banana regions of the Dominican Republic, with the participation of supply chain organizations.

In order to contribute technically to the achievement of the objectives of this assistance process, it is required to hire a professional with technical skills in the sustainable management of Bananas and with a vision of commitment to Fair Trade and who assumes the position of Technician in Sustainable Management of Fairtrade Bananas.

  • Purpose of the position

Efficiently and effectively manage the technical and operational components of the assistance process in the production of Fairtrade Bananas with SPOs in the Dominican Republic.

Purpose and Main Functions of the position

Purpose

Contribute to the empowerment and self-management of the membership

Principal function

Manage the technical and budgetary components of the PIP project efficiently

Collateral coordination functions

Develop and implement technical support for the Cooperatives participating in the project, in accordance with the work methodology promoted by CLAC.

Identify the activities necessary for the success of technical support, for this purpose the development and administration of a logical schedule for its implementation.

Plan and manage the budget, as well as manage project expenses, ensuring the correct use of project funds.

Ensure the quality of the technical support within the project, according to the elements established by CLAC in the project proposal. (Soil health, water management, production and use of bioinputs, water and carbon footprint management, biodiversity, among others).

Carrying out the necessary technical follow-up visits and monitoring in the different areas of the project, as well as the timely identification of risk factors in the execution.

Document interventions, work methodologies, results and learning and report them in a timely manner (according to plan) to the Sustainable Production Unit.

Develop and maintain fluid communication with the OPPs participating in the project and with CLAC work colleagues linked to the project to ensure good coordination of work agendas.
