Technology & Peacebuilding Officer At Mennonite Central Committee

Synopsis:

The Technology and Peacebuilding Officer will provide Information Technology assistance and general technical support to Africa Peacebuilding Institute (API). He is required to Manage and Maintain API Website and the social media platforms in collaboration with Program Coordinator. Additionally, s/he will accompany all non-LINCZ’s partners, offering capacity building of such partners where needed. Also, supporting partners in project planning, implementing and reporting. This role requires strong communication skills, technical expertise, project management capabilities, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. The officer in this position will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation and growth of the Africa Peacebuilding Institute.

The officer will commit 70% of working time to API-related tasks and 30% to supporting non-LINCZ partners.

Duties and responsibilities:

Capacity Building:

  • Facilitate training sessions and workshops to enhance the technological skills of partner organizations.
  • Develop and implement capacity-building programs tailored to the needs of partners in peacebuilding initiatives.
  • Provide orientation to API participants and facilitators on the use of technologies, learning management systems, online tools, cameras, and general tools such as Moodle, Zoom, webinars, Google Drive, etc.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Establish frameworks for monitoring and evaluating technology-driven peacebuilding efforts
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to program outcomes and impact.
  • Provide regular feedback and recommendations to partners based on evaluation findings.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare comprehensive reports on project progress, outcomes, and lessons learned.
  • Ensure timely submission of reports to stakeholders, including donors and partners.
  • Document best practices and case studies to share across the network.
  • Support the curriculum development of API courses in consultation with the Program Coordinator and API Director.
  • Submit regular written reports to the Program Coordinator, with copies to the API Director.

Data Management:

  • Oversee the uploading and management of data on the MCC INSIGHT data system.
  • Ensure data integrity, accuracy, backups, and security in accordance with organizational standards.

Website Management:

  • Support the Africa Peacebuilding Institute in managing and updating its website.
  • Regular maintenance and updating of website for improved functionality and user friendly.
  • Ensure that content is current, relevant, and reflective of ongoing peacebuilding initiatives.

Technical Support:

  • Provide ongoing technical support to partners in the implementation of technology solutions for peacebuilding.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to software, tools, or platforms used in projects.

Collaboration and Networking:

  • Foster relationships with stakeholders, including NGOs, government agencies, and community organizations.
  • Participate in relevant networks and forums to share knowledge and best practices in technology and peacebuilding.
  • Engage alumni, peace practitioners, and the public to participate in API’s social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.).
  • Act as a liaison officer between API and HEXCO, the registering body for API in Zimbabwe.

Innovation and Development:

  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and trends in peacebuilding.
  • Promote innovative approaches to integrating technology in peacebuilding practices.

Advocacy and Awareness:

  • Champion the use of technology for peacebuilding initiatives.
  • Raise awareness about the impact of technology on peacebuilding through presentations, workshops, and publications.

Cross-Functional Support:

  • Collaborate with other departments or teams to ensure alignment of technology initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Assist in resource mobilization efforts for technology-related projects.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of all computers in the office and in collaboration with our Regional IT Officer, and annually advise the MCC Reps for timely computer’s replacement.
  • All other duties as assigned by MCC.
  • Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong background in technology, peacebuilding, or a related field.
  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
  • Proficiency in data management systems, particularly MCC INSIGHTS.
  • Web development and management skills (e.g., WordPress, HTML5, CSS3)
  • Ability to analyze website and social media reports and provide feedback
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics and other data analytics platforms
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge in Digital Marketing and Social Media Management.
  • Ability to do Basic SEO and at times may be tasked to do blogging.
  • Ability to work with the different Learning Management Systems.
  • Ability to do basic IT skills which can be used to help other Staff in the Office.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite tools (Photoshop, Premiere Pro) is a plus.
