Organizational Background
Hand in Hand Eastern Africa (HiH EA) is a registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Kenya with mandate to operate within the Eastern Africa Region and a member of the Hand in Hand Global Network. Her vision is an empowered society with sustainable enterprises and jobs.
HiH EAs mandate is to work within the Eastern Africa region and is currently working in Kenya and Tanzania. The Organization strives to work with the marginalized communities in the area of economic and social empowerment through a participatory approach aimed at lifting themselves out of poverty and vulnerability.
About the task
HIHEA’s project exit strategy includes mobilizing self-help groups into community based organizations that on coming together can strengthen their engagements laterally and bilaterally with market actors, input suppliers, policy units within sub counties and counties.
The CBOs provide a platform for coordinated actions especially for farmers to aggregate their produce and negotiate for better pricing, better input supply rates and better markets.
We currently do not have a solid engagement approach with existing CBO members in our target groups. As such, we are seeking a consultant to help us develop a curriculum that can be engaged to our CBOs and SHGs members for a defined period. The modules can focus on a number of issues including strengthening value chains, market access, financial access, Governance mentorship, aggregation, planning and Accountability among others.

Activities

  1. Conduct a needs assessment to determine the modules required internally and with CBO leaders and members
  2. Conduct a comparative analysis of similar or like curriculums
  3. Develop the curriculum
  4. Conduct a TOT of the curriculum
    The consultant is expected to deliver the following:
    i. Prepare an inception report articulating the methodology for carrying out the assignment;
    ii. Submit report of the needs assessment
    iii. Based on the validated needs assessment, provide the necessary formats and instruments for the curriculum development;
    iv. Draft curriculum for validation;
    v. Conduct a TOT on the curriculum to select HIH team
    vi. Submit a final validated curriculum
    Qualifications and Experience:
    i. Minimum 7-10 years’ experience working on value chain development in different programmes or organisations (and ideally in Kenya as well other countries or contexts)
    ii. Demonstrated at least eight (5) years’ experience curriculum / training model development;
    iii. Good understanding of CBOs and cooperatives or associations in the development space
    iv. Demonstratable at five (5) years’ experience on understanding of rural entrepreneurship, gender, youth and rural development, with focus on local economic development and micro-credit and rural finance;
    Budget & LOE:
    The LOE required is estimated at around 20 days.
