The Program

BEQUAL supports education priorities of the Government of Laos (GoL) described in the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) Education Sector Development Plan and is aligned with the strategic directions set out in Australia’s Education Delivery Strategy. BEQUAL supports MoES with the primary curriculum reform, with a particular focus on primary curriculum development, teacher professional development and integration of inclusive education principles. BEQUAL phase 2 will continue the substantial progress and build on the achievements of the first phase, building on seven years of investment.

The Position

The Curriculum Development Manager – Technical, in partnership with MoES/RIES, is responsible for reviewing, managing and coordinating technical inputs and activities for the planning, development and design of inclusive curriculum materials and teaching resources for BEQUAL supported subjects, with grade 5 materials being ready for the school year starting in September 2023.

This position is part of the BEQUAL management team and works closely with other BEQUAL managers and teams to ensure cohesion and coherence across curriculum development, design, production, training and implementation through teachers.

The Person

The Curriculum Development Manager – Technical will have tertiary qualifications in education and 10+ years relevant work experience.

Coupled with your experience developing English language curriculum and teaching and learning materials for primary teachers , your primary teaching experience and your experience developing or assisting with the development of low-resource teaching and learning solutions, you will demonstrate capacity in the basic education sector in a developing country and low resource context.

With a strong understanding of developing education solutions in a low resource environment, especially related to the development of inclusive curriculum materials, you will demonstrate experience working in partnership with Ministry of Education counterparts and other colleagues and facilitating capacity development of Ministry counterparts.

With the ability to mainstream gender equality, disability and social inclusion into activities, and address child protection policy commitments, you will demonstrate the ability to effectively self-manage your priorities and deadlines while working effectively with senior management and implementing teams to deliver results.

A strong ability to coach and mentor colleagues from diverse social or cultural backgrounds is essential. Previous experience within Southeast Asia or Lao PDR is highly desirable.
