About the organization

Youth Advocates Ghana (YAG) is a youth-led and youth-driven non-profit organization working to mobilize, empower and advance the participation of children and young people in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Ghana with reach across Africa.

Established in 2011, YAG has evolved to become a national organization committed to promoting the wellbeing of children and young people through community engagement, partnerships and coalition building, national advocacy, youth-led research and international policy convenings.YAG is the initiator and convener for the African Youth SDGs Summit (www.youthsdgssummit.org)

YAG is registered with statutory agencies in Ghana and hold a special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Purpose of the position

The Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Officer will lead the organization efforts on partnerships development and resource mobilization. The position is intended to strengthen the organizations sustainability efforts and to launch a new organization strategic plan for 2024-2030.

Major Responsibilities

  1. Consult and develop a new resource mobilization strategy for the organization
  2. Market the organization to external stakeholders, particularly development partners in order to attract sustainable funding;
  3. Research fundraising opportunities and write grant applications to relevant donors.
  4. Initiate and forge strategic partnerships to position the organization as a youth civil society organization of choice;
  5. Maintain a database of partners, media organizations and practitioners who are willing to support the work of the organization;
  6. Identify a core partner for the African Youth SDGs Summit
  7. Provide periodic technical backstopping to members of the organization in respect of partnership building and resource mobilization;
  8. Work with the programme team to design innovative projects and programmes.
  9. Represent the organization in relevant meetings, events and other external engagements when necessary
  10. Perform any other relevant assignment as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • A good first degree in Development Studies, Planning, Business Administration or any relevant discipline. A master’s degree will be an advantage.
  • A good knowledge and experience in partnership building and fundraising
  • A good understanding and demonstrable experience in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Strategic and business planning skills
  • Ability to build trust and relationships, organize people and manage performance of teams.
  • Excellent appreciation of policy, advocacy and resource mobilization.
  • Strong research, public relations, coordination and networking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Good appreciation of research and learning.
  • Proficiency in the use of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other software packages
