Awareness Against Human Trafficking (HAART), is a non-governmental organisation based in Nairobi and dedicated to fighting human trafficking in Eastern Africa. HAART works through a multi-disciplinary approach applying the UN Four P’s Strategy to combat trafficking in persons: Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, Policy and Partnership. HAART is one of the key Counter-Trafficking Organisations in Kenya addressing the issue of Human Trafficking by supporting the people most affected by it and also developing best practices in the movement.
Project title: Strengthening HAART’s capacity in child protection work
Targeted Group: HAART staff members across the organisation, around 20 participants
Project Assignment: Preparing and conducting a 2 days training on Children’s rights and Safeguarding
Project Background:
HAART is providing direct assistance services to minors who are victims of human trafficking and their families. The organisation operates a shelter for girls who have been rescued from trafficking situations, which serves as a temporary home and rehabilitation centre before reintegration. The outreach care team supports minors (both boys and girls) after being reunified with their families communities to ensure a sustainable reintegration and to avoid re-trafficking. Both teams follow a trauma-informed and victim-centred approach that aims for tailor-made direct assistance service provision to each and every child. HAART’ s prevention team is cooperating with schools in order to raise awareness about Child trafficking.
Project Objectives:
- Improved knowledge among HAART staff on child rights and Kenya’s legal framework
- Staff to understand concepts, approaches, ethics, and principles of child protection
- Understand formal and informal child protection systems, as well as roles and responsibilities of actors in child protection
- Enhancing staff capacity to design effective child protection and child safeguarding interventions, create a protective environment within activities/projects, and respond to child safeguarding issues through responsive and remedial actions.
Project Deliverables:
- Develop training content and schedule, to be pre shared with the HAART team for review
- Produce and deliver tailor-made training materials, including handouts for participants
- Productive and time-efficient workshop facilitation
- Availability of materials on child protection and child safeguarding
- Provide a summary report
Project Approach:
The assignment will be delivered as follows:
- Consultative meeting with HAART to agree on training content and approach
- Provide first draft of training materials and schedule
- Meeting to receive feedback from the HAART team
- Provide final training materials and schedule
- Facilitate training
- Feedback meeting with HAART Kenya
- Provide a summary report
Duration of the Assignment:
The assignment is to be completed within 6 weeks from the day of Agreement signed between HAART Kenya and the selected Consultant.
Essential criteria & qualification:
- Degree in Child protection/ Social Sciences or any other related field
- Experience in Workshop facilitation
- Experience in the Child protection field
- Knowledge on Kenya’s legal framework regarding Children’s rights and Child protection
- References demonstrating experience similar assignments in the past
- High level written and oral communications skills in English and Swahili
