Transitional Housing Specialist At International Rescue Committee

Job Overview:

In April 2022, the IRC in Boise launched Monarch Landing, a transitional housing project with the capacity to house families while IRC seeks families’ long-term housing. Families stay in Monarch Landing for anywhere from 30 days to 8 months. Monarch Landing includes private residences, common areas accessible to all residents, service areas and recreational opportunities.

Reporting to the Housing Manager, the Transitional Housing Specialist will be stationed at the Monarch Landing Reception desk, and be responsible for coordinating volunteer services in Monarch Landing, training and monitoring work performed by volunteers recruited and onboarded by the Volunteer Coordinator; connecting residents of the building to the proper reporting pathways for requests including maintenance needs and donations; and keeping the Housing Manager informed of developments during their shift. The Transitional Housing Specialist will work closely with IRC Housing Team members, volunteers, and the maintenance and cleaning employees of the building owners, Fortify.

Major Responsibilities:

· Train with the Housing Manager and Volunteer Coordinator to know how to the complete the tasks of each volunteer function within the Monarch Landing transitional housing facility

· Deliver training to all new Monarch Landing volunteers, to the task list associated with the function they will perform in the building

· During business hours, complete duties at the Reception counter of Monarch Landing transitional housing facility, to direct responses to inquiries that come to front desk to the appropriate destination (i.e. repair requests > maintenance request log, donations requests > Inventory Specialist etc)

· Listen to concerns and requests of building residents and relay them to IRC team members per policies and trainings of IRC

· Inform entrants to the building that if they are not screened / badged volunteers, expressly invited guests, or residents, that they are not permitted to enter this privately operated facility

· Collaborate closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to know the schedule of committed volunteers in the facility each week

· Track volunteer activities in comparison with planned schedule: report on no-shows; initiate follow up communication to volunteers to see if / when they will come; check in with all volunteers as they complete their task shift and report back to Housing Manager which tasks are done / undone from their shift

· Gather feedback from Monarch Landing volunteers to transmit to Housing Manager & Volunteer Coordinator for operational improvements

· Transmit schedule of expected arrivals & move-outs to Security team, and if necessary, volunteers

· Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Key Working Relationships:

Coordinates with: IRC Housing team, Fortify maintenance and cleaning team, building security team

Job Requirements

· Lived experience as a refugee or immigrant is preferred

· Refugee language preferred, especially Dari / Pashto, Swahili, Kinyarwanda or Arabic

· Demonstrated excellence in achieving outcomes in a context with multiple streams of inputs, outputs

· Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written English

· Willingness to learn IRC / trauma-informed de-escalation techniques

· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes.

· Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.

Working Environment

· Must be based in the service delivery area.

· A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined. May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

· Must have a valid driver’s license with legally required insurance. Position will require using own transportation within service delivery area. Mileage reimbursement available.
