Translator and Translation Technology Support Officer At Amnesty International

Are you an experienced translator with a passion for translation technologies? Are you interested in using your skills to support Amnesty International to achieve our human rights strategic goals?

JOB PURPOSE

As a member of the Translation and Language Strategy Department of Amnesty International’s Language Resource Centre, you will translate, localise, edit and revise Amnesty International’s texts in coordination with the other translators in the language team, applying the quality assurance protocols defined by the coordinator of the language team and the Head of Translation and Language Strategy.

You will revise Amnesty’s texts translated by external translators, ensuring the quality of the deliverables, and will coordinate their work as required. In addition, you will have the exciting opportunity to act as the local Translation Technology Support Officer and will assist the Translation Technology Lead and the Head of Translation and Language Strategy with any translation technology initiatives aimed at meeting the evolving translation needs of the organisation.

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience translating documents relating to the human rights sector, with excellent writing and editing skills across different media. You will be highly literate in Microsoft Office and other internet software, with an understanding of the basics of programming languages and concepts.

You will be a native French speaker, with fluency in English.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Translate, edit, adapt and revise texts into the target language, ensuring that translations are accurately conveyed for the target audience.
  • Upload translated content to the website as required to ensure content is available to the target audience.
  • In accordance with the guidelines of the LRC Terminology Specialist, contribute to the terminology projects carried out within the LRC by updating the terminology database to ensure the overall terminology deliverables are complete, updated and accurate.
  • From a translation technology perspective, contribute to detecting areas for improvement and work closely with the local language team, the Translation Technology Lead and the Terminology Specialist to propose ways to streamline and enhance translation services and workflows.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Native speaker of French and fluent in English (fluency in other languages desirable).
  • Translation skills with a focus on human rights language.
  • Extensive experience in translating content based on an understanding of the French-speaking audiences.
  • Understanding of, or experience in, professional translation/editorial quality standards.
  • Knowledge of CAT Tools and workflows.
  • Knowledge of MT training customization methods and evaluation metrics.
