UI & motion designer At Médecins Sans Frontières

The MSF Foundation is a specialised entity created by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) dedicated to medical innovation targeting patients living in contexts with limited resources. Ongoing projects relate, among other things, to the use of 3D printing to create personalised prostheses; the development of digital tools for epidemic control and surveillance; and the development of a smartphone application using machine learning to streamline and automate antibiotic susceptibility testing: Antibiogo.
The Antibiogo project will contribute to the fight against antibiotic resistance, a major public health concern that is expected to cause 10 million deaths per year by 2050.
Antibiogo is a free, open source, offline Android app, designed for laboratories in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMIC). It supports non-expert laboratory technicians in measuring and interpreting antimicrobial susceptibility tests (AST or Antibiogram), in order to help doctors prescribe appropriate antibiotics to their patients and to provide accurate results that can be used for surveillance purposes.
A first version of Antibiogo that was clinically evaluated across three different sites and countries (Jordan, Mali & Senegal) has been CE self certified since May 2022 as a mobile device application used for the interpretation of antibiograms in resource-limited settings and is being deployed within MSF laboratories.
Currently, a second version of the app integrating additional features is under development to be submitted for CE-marking according to the new In-Vitro Diagnostic Medical Devices Regulation (EU)
The user experience and accessibility are of great importance for the adoption and use of the app by users of different backgrounds and cultures. A high quality product and attention to details are essential to ensure the app will be understood to our target demographic.
Different teams work in collaboration on Antibiogo under the responsibility of Antibiogo program manager, including the clinical team, the product and development team, and the regulatory & quality insurance team.

Activities
Under the responsibility of the product designer, the user interface & motion designer is in charge of producing the graphical elements and written specifications for the engineering team. Relying on the userflows and/or lo-fi wireframes provided by Antibiogo’s product designer, they produce the elements used to develop the new features or improve the current apps. Also, they produce micro-interactions and short animations for help, onboarding or other purposes, in the apps.
Working on all the apps currently maintained by the engineering team, Android (Kotlin) & web (Vue.js) and using the current tools: Figma, Google Drive & Asana. Tools for animation are up to decision by the person, but suggested are: After Effects & Lottie.

The core activities will be:
● Create, in collaboration with the product designer, hi-fi mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how apps function and look like.
● Explain and detail the expected rendering of the app to the engineering team. With a focus on animations, transitions and variations in case of responsive designs.
● Create animations, using market-standard tools, and provide all the necessary for implementation to the engineering team.
● Provide strong expertise on the apps’ visual aspect. With a focus on accessibility and multicultural understanding.
● Evolve and maintain Antibiogo’s design system, based on Material 3, together with the product designer and the engineering team.
● Suggest improvements and modifications to the graphical style of Antibiogo project and apps, based on efficiency and accessibility.
