Working collaboratively on the management of Trócaire’s UK donor portfolio, the UK Partnerships Advisor plays a critical role in supporting Trócaire to increase funding from UK Government grant mechanisms (incl. FCDO and Dept of Environment) and UK based Trusts and Foundations. The successful post-holder will work closely with Trócaire’s HQ and country teams to identify opportunities and increase the UK grants portfolio in line with organisational targets for development and humanitarian work.

You will have excellent strategic thinking and planning skills. You will be an experienced networker, confident in interacting with others at all levels. You will have a comprehensive understanding of the UK funding landscape and a track-record of developing successful funding proposals and effective management of UK funded grants.

The successful candidate will work as part of the Global Partnerships and Funding Unit (GPFU) with staff based in Ireland and in each of Trócaire’s country offices overseas. As the role is UK focused, the post holder will liaise closely with Trócaire’s Belfast based Northern Ireland office and will be responsible for HQ level management of a pipeline of grant contracts held by Trócaire’s Northern Ireland office. The post holder will liaise closely with other Directorates including Corporate Services (Finance, Human Resources and Standards and Compliance), Internal Audit, Global Programmes Directorate, the Advocacy team and the International Directorate management teams.

Reporting to Global Partnership and Funding Manager (based in Maynooth) and dotted line to the Head of Region, Northern Ireland, this is a maternity cover contract and is based in London (desk space provided by a sister agency) and will require periodic travel to Maynooth and Belfast offices.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Donor focal point for UK funding

• The UK Partnerships Advisor – plays a key role as donor focal point, for UK Government Funding, leading proposal development, due diligence audits, support to grant set up, on-going grant management, including relationship management with the donor/fund manager.

• The post holder is responsible for managing Trócaire’s pipeline of UK funding.

• Lead the development of global level/multi-country grant applications with country teams as needed.

• UK Aid Match is an important funding stream for Trócaire. Working closely with the implementing country office, this post is responsible for relationship management and oversees the grant application process, grant set-up and management of UK Aid Match funding.

• Build on work to-date in scoping and accessing relevant grants from UK based Trusts and Foundations and increase and diversify Trócaire Northern Ireland’s institutional income.

• Liaise regularly with country management and GPFU staff to identify funding priorities and match them to available opportunities.

• Maintain familiarity with UK Government requirements for proposal quality and compliance and provide support to country teams in their preparation of proposals/tenders.

• Develop capacity statements and other marketing materials.

Strategy Development, Implementation and Capacity Development

• Contribute to the ongoing development, implementation and monitoring of Trócaire’s engagement strategies on UK Government funding and UK Trusts & Foundation (T&F) funding for development and humanitarian programmes.

• Develop and maintain a professional and productive relationship with current and potential UK based institutional donors, carrying out research and proactively pursuing potential new funding opportunities, as required.

• Work with country teams to ensure Trócaire is well-positioned to apply for funding, profiling, engaging with UK Government staff, Philanthropies and consortium scoping.

• Keep abreast of key strategic developments and emerging issues with UK Government funding, represent Trócaire in engagement with UK Government officials, build key contacts with INGO peer agencies and consortium partners.

• Provide support and training on accessing and managing UK Funding.

Coordination & Communication

• Ensure the timely identification and tracking of funding opportunities from the UK Government and UK Trusts and Foundations.

• Responsible for maintaining and updating Trócaire’s Funding Management Information System (Salesforce) on funding opportunities and dissemination to teams.

• Provide regular pipeline and grant management updates and reports to Trócaire Northern Ireland Management and Board and the GPFU team, and international teams, including quarterly income reports.

Networking, Representation and Visibility

• Develop and maintain effective relationships with UK Government, peer INGOs, private sector enterprises and others

• Participate in peer networking and other events in the UK, including BOND working groups and other formal or informal networks, as relevant. Provide regular updates to Trócaire management.

• Represent Trocaire on UK Trust and Foundation networks to increase access and diversify income with a view to increase and diversify Trócaire Northern Ireland’s income.

• Represent Trócaire with key stakeholders, organise events and ensure Trócaire is profiled within the UK sector.

• Support engagement strategy around UK networking and representation for country management teams.

Other

• Travel to country offices and support remotely, Trócaire teams responding to applications, as required.

• Provide regular written updates to management and other staff

• Attend/skype into regular meetings and trainings in Trócaire HQ and elsewhere

• Participate fully as a member of the GPFU team, contributing to joint initiatives such as the quarterly and annual funding workshops, annual work-planning and in strategic planning.

• Participate in regular Trócaire Northern Ireland team meetings, providing updates to the team and annual staff updates to the Trócaire Northern Ireland Board

Person Specification – Essential Requirements

(E) Qualification

Third level qualification in international development, humanitarian response or other relevant area

(E) Experience

5+ years’ experience in the area of institutional donor-oriented business development, at least 2 years of which should be in developing and implementing institutional grants, preferably in an NGO environment. Demonstrable previous experience with UK Government mechanisms.
