The escalation of conflict in Ukraine has forced more than 5 million people – mostly women and children – to flee to neighbouring countries. With the escalating crisis, the needs are growing by the hour. More than half of Ukraine’s children have either fled for safety within the country or are living as refugees.
Since the conflict started, our teams have been on the ground assessing and responding to the urgent needs of those searching for safety. We are working to support internally displaced people in Ukraine as well as refugees in Romania, Georgia and Moldova.
Here’s where you come in:
As the Advocacy Director, you will lead on advocacy and policy for World Vision’s Ukraine Crisis Response (UCR), including strategy design and implementation. You will consider key influencers, field level realities and World Vision’s strengths to determine objectives that advocate for and with Ukrainian children and children from host communities and leverage World Vision’s presence, evidence, brand and opportunities. To accomplish this purpose, you will develop policy analysis, positions, messaging and reports on an ongoing basis and advocate externally. This position will liaise with a broad number of stakeholders internally and externally, while directing World Vision’s efforts in response to this migration crisis across various refugee host countries and inside Ukraine.
Requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Law, Social Sciences or a related field applicable to developing advocacy and policy multi-country strategy
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in Advocacy and Partnering with a thorough understanding of all areas of project management cycles in a complex, international organization
- Good practical knowledge of the region, it’s socio-political dynamics and conflict background
- Experience in Leadership role within the core strategic team
- Proven experience in advocacy initiatives, coalition building and ability to rally coalitions and networks to take positions on specific policy issues
- Excellent written and oral English; knowledge of Russian is highly preferred; Ukrainian is a plus.
- The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 40% of the time.
