UNFPA JPO – Programme Analyst, Midwifery and Sexual and Reproductive Health At United Nations Population Fund

As part of the UNFPA JPO programme overall framework, the JPO will benefit from the following

supervision modalities:

  • Structured guidance provided by the supervisor with the purpose of gradually increasing the
  • responsibilities of the JPO
  • Establishment of a work plan, with clear key results
  • Effective supervision through knowledge sharing and performance/development feedback throughout
  • the assignment
  • Easy access to the supervisor
  • Participation in Unit/Team/Office meetings to ensure integration and operational effectiveness
  • Guidance and advice in relation to learning and training opportunities within the field of expertise
  • Annual performance appraisal and development with the supervisor (PAD).

Learning elements

Upon completion of the two-year assignment, the JPO will be able to:

  • Design and implement projects addressing the full scope of SRHR.
  • Write assessment reports on the subject of SRHR and midwifery.
  • Monitor progress of projects on SRHR and midwifery.
  • Prepare project budgets on the basis of the Office Management Plan.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provision of technical support in the management of the delivery of SRHR programme with particular focus on midwifery.
  • Contribute to policy dialogue, coordination and development frameworks related to Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights.
  • Provide technical and programmatic support to harmonize SRHR- programs targeting the furthest behind first including key populations
  • Contribute to promotion of midwifery profession through strengthening midwifery education, association and regulations
  • Contribute to enhanced quality of care through supporting the implementation of the WHO Labor
  • Care Guide as well as the WHO recommendations on maternal and neonatal care for a positive postnatal experience
  • Participate in the national coordination forum for neonatal health and safe motherhood.
  • Contribute in the execution of midwifery related innovations including monitoring and evaluation of mobimentors programme
  • Support the implementation of capacity building activities and other interventions in line with the 5 years’ strategic plan for the Rwanda Association of the Midwives (RAM). This would require close collaboration with the RAM and the National Council for Nurses and Midwives
  • Contribute to ongoing efforts of the CO in spearheading innovations for enhanced SRH demand creation and service delivery with a particular focus on maternal and newborn health.
  • Conduct regular field monitoring visits to assess programme progress, disseminate findings and identify follow-up actions and recommendations.
  • Contribute to regular quarterly reports and briefs on program progress, M&E reports & mission reports.
  • Contribute to raising the visibility of UNFPA work around SRHR, midwifery and its impact to communities. This include but is not limited to drafting and/or writing articles, reports, post, presentations, among others
  • Undertake any other task that may be required by his/her supervisor/office

Education

Master’s Degree (with 2 years of relevant experience) or Bachelor’s degree (with 4 years of relevant experience) in Midwifery with specialized knowledge in the field of Sexual and Reproductive Health.

Experience

At least 2 years professional experience in clinical midwifery for those who hold a Master’s degree and at least 4 years of relevant experience for those who have a Bachelor’s degree. Prior experience in developing countries, preferably Rwanda, is an asset.

Language requirements

Fluency in English. Knowledge of other working languages of the UN is an asset.
