COOPI Cooperazione Internazionale is an Italian secular and independent humanitarian organization that fights against all forms of poverty to improve the world. Founded in 1965, today COOPI is present in 33 countries in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean and the Middle East, with both emergency and development projects carried out by expatriate personnel – an average of more than 270 people per year – and staff national. The main institutional funders are the European Union – ECHO and INTPA – USAID, UN agencies, the Italian Government, local authorities and other European governments.

Description of COOPI in Venezuela

Since 2019, COOPI has established a presence in Venezuela to assist the local population after the worsening of the country’s socioeconomic crisis. As of July 2020, a regional crisis response program begins that is implemented in consortium with Venezuelan organizations for the protection of vulnerable groups. In these years COOPI has expanded its interventions and is currently executing projects with different donors in Caracas, Sucre, Delta Amacuro and Bolivar in protection (GBV, human trafficking), sexual reproductive health, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) and food school.

Objective/job description

Within the framework of the DUE project Community empowerment for the right to water in three communities in the state of Sucre, Venezuela, COOPI plans to carry out activities to improve access to water, sanitation and hygiene services in the communities where the project intervenes.

To implement these activities, COOPI Venezuela is looking for a WASH officer for its Cumaná base. The Wash officer will be in charge of implementing the project actions at the level of identification, implementation, supervision and monitoring of the activities planned in the intervention areas, as well as actively participating through the promotion of good practices. of hygiene and environmental sanitation, with community participation and leadership.

Areas of responsibility

Main activities:

Under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Officer will carry out the following tasks:

  • Identification and survey of the requirements for adaptations and provisions of the spaces where the WASH works will be carried out in the different communities where the project is developed with the support and supervision of the community.
  • Support in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the rehabilitation and/or improvement works of infrastructure and water supply systems, in the previously identified spaces where the project’s WASH interventions will be carried out.
  • Manage the formation of community water, sanitation and solid waste management committees in the communities where the project is implemented.
  • Planning, execution and monitoring of community promotion activities for treatment, safe water storage, sanitation and waste management with the project’s target groups.
  • Lead dialogue tables with communities, state institutions and other non-governmental organizations in order to guarantee the successful implementation of the project.
  • Contribute to the adaptation and implementation of the project’s monitoring and accountability tools, facilitating their application in compliance with the organization’s internal procedures.
  • Execute those tasks inherent to the position and that are requested by the country coordination, according to the context and needs of the intervention.

Desired profile

ESSENTIALS

  • University professional graduated in the areas of engineering, architecture, environment or related careers.
  • Studies and/or experience of at least 3 years in Wash and/or related interventions;
  • Experience in supervising works (work costs, valuations, start and closing minutes)
  • Experience in working with communities, managing the formation of water committees.
  • Effective communication and spirit of initiative;
  • Attitude and spirit of teamwork (communication and coordination);
  • Excellent ability to plan, organize and adapt to circumstances;
  • Knowledge at an advanced level in office automation (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.);
  • Respect for humanitarian principles: humanity, neutrality, impartiality.

DESIRABLE

  • Previous work with NGOs in emergency contexts or in humanitarian projects;
  • Systematization of processes and preparation of documents and reports;
  • Driving license;
  • Immediate availability.
