COOPI Cooperazione Internazionale is an Italian secular and independent humanitarian organization that fights against all forms of poverty to improve the world. Founded in 1965, today COOPI is present in 33 countries in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean and the Middle East, with both emergency and development projects carried out by expatriate personnel – an average of more than 270 people per year – and staff national. The main institutional funders are the European Union – ECHO and INTPA – USAID, UN agencies, the Italian Government, local authorities and other European governments.

COOPI en Venezuela

Since 2019, COOPI has established a presence in Venezuela to assist the local population after the worsening of the country’s socioeconomic crisis. As of July 2020, a regional crisis response program begins that is implemented in consortium with Venezuelan organizations for the protection of vulnerable groups. In these years COOPI has expanded its interventions and is currently executing projects with different donors in Caracas, Sucre, Delta Amacuro and Bolívar in protection (GBV, Child Protection, Human Trafficking), sexual reproductive health, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene ) and school feeding.

Objective/job description

COOPI plans to strengthen the project team by hiring Project Coordinator, to carry out planning, management, implementation , supervision and support of local partners of the project called “Community empowerment for the right to water in three communities in the state of Sucre, Venezuela.

Areas of responsibility

Implementation and project management:

  • Ensure the completion of the activities and the fulfillment of the project objectives, according to the technical, qualitative and time standards provided, in coordination with the COOPI team and with the implementing partners in the protection and WASH components;
  • Guarantee the operation of the project implemented in accordance with the organization’s practices and policies, ensuring that all participating actors are informed and assume their corresponding role;
  • Contribute to the technical training of the local partner, providing support where necessary and ensuring a proactive and constant flow of communication;
  • Prepare work plans, schedules, and activity reports for submission to the country coordination, regional coordination, and donors;
  • Support, in coordination with the rest of the project team, in logistics tasks and administrative supervision of activities.
  • Formulation of strategic plans in a participatory manner with the communities and actors involved in the implementation of the project.

Monitoring, tracking and accountability

  • Coordinate with the person responsible for MEAL the monitoring of activities and the systematization of the beneficiaries; ensure compliance with the expected results, identifying possible gaps and proposing the necessary adjustments or modifications;
  • Physical-financial monitoring of the project, guaranteeing its correct execution, with the preparation of periodic monitoring reports.
  • Contribute to the adaptation and implementation of project monitoring and accountability tools, facilitating their application in compliance with the organization’s internal procedures;
  • Contribute to the production and dissemination of technical and informational, communication and accountability materials, including interim and final program reports;
  • Supervise the filing of documentation related to the execution of interventions, including the means of verification generated (attendance lists, minutes, photos, prepared documents, among others).

Complementary activities

  • Guarantee a gender focus as well as the inclusion of people with disabilities, ethnicity and older adults in the execution of the project;
  • Participate and collaborate in the selection, induction and coordination processes of the project team;
  • Coordinate with the competent local authorities, the communities involved and other humanitarian actors intervening in the area;
  • Represent COOPI with communities, with local authorities and with donors, in coordination meetings, visits and events, according to the context and needs of the intervention;
  • Contribute to the organization by participating in the identification of opportunities and the preparation of complementary proposals to the ongoing intervention;
  • Execute those tasks inherent to the position and that are requested by the country coordination, according to the context and needs of the intervention.

DESIRED PROFILE

Necessary requirements

  • Experience in project management (between 3 and 5 years) in the field of development or humanitarian action;
  • Experience in designing, implementing and monitoring activities in the water, sanitation and hygiene sector (candidates without direct expertise in WASH will not be considered);
  • Professional studies (minimum bachelor’s degree, postgraduate or master’s degree desirable) in engineering, architecture, environmental management and/or related fields;
  • Experience in community work and with local partners;
  • Ability to systematize processes and prepare documents and reports;
  • Ability to work autonomously (organization, work planning, analytical development, synthesis), as well as to coordinate multidisciplinary teams;
  • Ability to work in emergencies and under pressure, as well as in contexts with high complexity;
  • Attitude and spirit for teamwork, motivation, honesty, pro-active and decisive attitude, common sense, discretion;
  • Respect for humanitarian principles: humanity, neutrality, impartiality,
  • Sensitivity towards gender and diversity. Have experience and ability to live and work in diverse cultural contexts showing culturally appropriate attitudes.
  • Use of computer tools (Microsoft Windows operating system) and office tools (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Spanish language essential;

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experiences with procedures for managing funds from institutional donors (United Nations Agencies, ECHO, European Union and the private sector;
  • Knowledge of the English language;
  • Ability to work autonomously (organization, work planning, analytical development, synthesis) and in contexts with high complexity and under pressure (meet limited deadlines);
  • Excellent teamwork ability, in person and remotely;
  • Leadership and team management skills;
  • Effective communication, creativity and proactivity;
