Description of COOPI in Venezuela
Since 2019, COOPI has established a presence in Venezuela to assist the local population following the worsening of the country’s socio-economic crisis. As of July 2020, it has launched a regional crisis response program implemented in consortium with Venezuelan organizations for the protection of vulnerable groups. In recent years, COOPI has expanded its interventions and is currently implementing projects in the Capital District, Miranda, Sucre, Bolívar and Delta Amacuro in the sectors: Protection (General Protection and GBV), Sexual and Reproductive Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Livelihoods and Food Security.
Objective/Job Description
Within the framework of the project “Multisectoral assistance and vital protection services for the Venezuelan population in situations of greatest vulnerability and risk affected by the crisis in Venezuela”, the intervention aims to improve protection conditions and increase the security and well-being of the Venezuelan population in situations of greatest vulnerability and at risk through the provision of multisectoral protection and assistance services. The organizations of the Consortium will concentrate their actions in nine (9) states of Venezuela: Amazonas, Apure, Bolívar, Delta Amacuro, Distrito Capital, Falcón, Miranda, Sucre, Táchira and Zulia, carrying out activities with interventions in various subsectors of the Protection Sector, including the response to gender-based violence, child protection and psychosocial support (PSS). In addition, it will also include complementary activities in different subsectors of Food Assistance, Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene and Humanitarian Coordination, Information Management and Evaluations.
La/el Promotor/ra de Protección será responsable de acompañar, promover y motivar la implementación de la estrategia de prevención de la Violencia basada en Género y la Trata de Personas a nivel comunitario, diseminando la información de mensajes claves para la prevención, el acceso efectivo a los servicios de protección especializados, conformando las redes de apoyo a mujeres, generando espacios de articulación con líderes, líderesas comunitarias y otros actores locales clave y facilitando actividades de sensibilización en las comunidades priorizadas.
The Protection Promoter will combine efforts with the organization’s case management team, promoting community participation, reducing barriers to access to rights and improving the quality of life of the beneficiary population in the intervention areas, adhering to the objectives, methodological and ethical guidelines established in COOPI’s standard operating procedures for addressing GBV survivors and TdP victims.
Areas of responsibility
Specific Activities
- Effective coordination between the COOPI protection team and community organizations, ensuring fluid and collaborative communication with the various organizations, community councils and other key actors who operate in the assigned community.
- Organize community campaigns and events within the community to disseminate prevention messages regarding GBV, TdP and other situations of violence.
- Promote the creation and support of networks to support women in the communities prioritized by the project.
- Set up mobile information points and deliver information about their rights and existing services to the beneficiary population.
- Support the mapping of actors and the characterization of protection, health, education and other community resources available to the beneficiary population.
- Ensure safe and timely referral and channeling of GBV survivors and TdP victims to the project’s protection services, in case of disclosures during community activities.
- Promote the participation of community actors, leaders and women-led organizations to form support networks for women in the identified communities.
- Promote the prevention of gender-based violence and human trafficking through recreational and psychosocial strategies that promote community mobilization.
- Facilitate information sessions and community dialogues with women, men, LGBTIQ+ population, youth and other key groups on GBV, TdP, New Masculinities and Sexual and Reproductive Health prevention messages.
- Continuous monitoring and evaluation of the impact of activities, collecting data and providing feedback to improve implementation.
- Support needs monitoring activities on relevant topics in the project implementation areas.
- Prepare and organize all verification media tools such as photographic records, attendance lists, records of delivery of promotional materials and other supports of your activities.
- Contribute to the diagnosis of protection risks, as well as access to services, in close collaboration with other members of the case management team.
- Process and share statistical reports on activities carried out and programmatic scope on a monthly basis.
- Participate in team and supervisory meetings.
- Participate in the training and experience exchange processes to which they are invited.
- Comply with safety guidelines and promote compliance during team field trips.
- Ensure compliance with COOPI’s Code of Ethics and Conduct, Gender Policy, Protection and PEAS Policy.
Desired profile:
ESSENTIALS
- Professional in Education, Psychology, Social Work or equivalent directly related studies.
- Two (2) years of previous experience working as a promoter in emergency situations or in humanitarian projects (particularly with GBV and TdP prevention issues and/or with a gender equality approach and a survivor-centered approach).
- Skills to raise awareness among groups on prevention in GBV, TdP, New Masculinities, Sexual and Reproductive Health.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to interact with different sectors/actors.
- Systematization of processes and preparation of documents and reports.
- Ability to gather information objectively, appropriately and sensitively, observing carefully, listening actively, paying full attention to the situation and information from various sources.
- Interest, availability and experience working in multicultural environments.
- Ability to work autonomously (organization, work planning, analytical development).
- Excellent knowledge of the institutional structure of comprehensive support for survivors of GBV, TdP and protection routes at the community and institutional levels.
- Know and apply the principles of humanitarian action: neutrality, humanity, impartiality and independence.
- Respect for COOPI’s Vision and Mission.
- Motivation, honesty, proactive and decisive attitude, common sense, discretion.
- Ability to systematize processes and prepare documents and reports.
- Handling of computer tools (Microsoft Windows operating system) and office automation (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Availability to travel within the designated area.
- Sensitivity to gender and diversity.
