How can you make a difference? Key functions / responsibilities
The Volunteer and Youth Coordinator will have as his/her primary responsibility to guarantee the comprehensive management of volunteering and youth in the Venezuelan Red Cross, through institutional planning, technical and administrative coordination of the activities carried out in the branches. This includes the adequate selection of volunteers and young people, supervision of community activities and youth programs, monitoring and follow-up of participation indicators, ensuring the correct execution of the programs and collecting sources of verification. In addition, the Volunteer and Youth Coordinator will act as a liaison between the Venezuelan Red Cross and other public and private organizations, being responsible for the preparation of monthly reports and contributing to the reports required by donor partners, as well as promoting strategic alliances and strengthening local capacities through training and educational activities.
He/she will be in charge of:
- Responsible for volunteer and youth development within the National Society together with SN leaders.
- Implement the Americas Volunteer Development Framework in the National Society.
- To advise and coordinate actions for the strengthening, good management and development of volunteers and youth in all structures of the National Society.
- Oversee institutional requirements on strengthening volunteerism and youth in response to the needs of the National Society to carry out its daily activities.
- Coordinate and supervise the proper management of volunteers and youth in the branches, from their recruitment to their professionalization and provision of service.
- Generate tools to ensure the inclusion, representation and participation of volunteers and young people in all structures of the National Society.
- Collaborate with all departments that make up the organizational structure of the institution, both at the national level and in local structures, in matters of volunteering and youth to ensure proper performance of its activities.
- Respond to and resolve queries from interested parties, volunteers, young people or any structure.
- To plan, coordinate, direct, control and supervise the volunteer and youth activities carried out by the Venezuelan Red Cross.
- Attend different institutional activities, such as ordinary and extraordinary assemblies, and others that their superiors request for their advice.
- Attend non-institutional activities, whose participation is required by superiors or on behalf of the institution in that area.
- Coordinate and supervise the preparation and successful execution of national activities or projects aimed at strengthening, developing and managing volunteering and youth.
- Coordinate and supervise the activities of the departments under his/her charge, under the principle of effectiveness, efficiency and agile processing.
- Advise coordinators on matters within their area of expertise to make better decisions regarding volunteer and youth management.
- Lead projects to improve and achieve the strategic objectives under his/her responsibility.
- Generate public-private alliances at national and international levels aimed at the development of volunteering and youth, and at institutional positioning.
- Perform other tasks related to the type of position and those assigned by the immediate superior, based on the characteristics and special conditions of the position, to provide a quality service that meets the goals and objectives of the institution, in accordance with the Strategic Development Plan of the National Society.
- Ensure that the Venezuelan Red Cross has access to a technical system and resources for volunteer and youth development. This involves developing strategies and new tools, as well as disseminating and promoting existing tools. One focus will be promoting new technologies such as online training.
- Ensure an integrated approach to volunteering and youth development with other programme areas and different volunteering programmes within the National Society.
- Represent the Venezuelan Red Cross at conferences and seminars on volunteers and youth under the authorization of their superiors.
- Promote volunteering and youth participation within the Movement.
- Promote knowledge sharing and recognition of volunteering and youth development efforts by capturing and disseminating good practices.
- Support the National Society in raising funds for its Volunteer and Youth Development efforts.
- Implement the Volunteer and Youth Database Management System in the Venezuelan Red Cross.
- Design Key Management Indicators (KPI’s).
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Youth and Volunteer Management System.
- Coordinate training at the national level and for branches of the Volunteer and Youth Cycle.
- Monitor the needs and progress in basic training and leadership issues by volunteers and young people.
- Promote social volunteering by encouraging branches to undertake projects and recruit social volunteers, including the integration of volunteers from different groups.
- Manage partnerships for volunteer and youth development with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, other National Societies, other voluntary organisations, educational entities, government and the private sector.
- Perform other tasks of the position and those assigned by immediate superiors, based on the characteristics and special conditions of this profile, to provide a quality service that meets the objectives and goals of the organization.
Report
The Volunteer and Youth Coordinator will report to the General Management.
Trips
Must be available to travel within the country.

It is highly desirable that you have sufficient equipment to perform your function remotely: laptop and/or computer, good Internet connection, among others.
Workplace
Caracas (Headquarters of the Venezuelan Red Cross).
To qualify as a builder of the Venezuelan humanitarian system you must meet the following requirements:
- University degree in social or administrative sciences. Master’s degree or specialization related to the functions to be performed is desirable. A first-level university degree in combination with five (5) years of work experience in the area will be accepted as an advanced university degree.
- A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience leading work teams related to volunteering is required, preferably in humanitarian organizations.
- Certification in project management or program management from the Project Management Institute (PMI) or similar is desirable.
- Strong program management skills, including planning, activity tracking, financial management, monitoring and evaluation.
- Strong analytical and writing skills, able to foster and maintain alliances.
- Ability to train and mentor staff and volunteers, to provide technical support and capacity building.
- Experience in facilitating organizational development processes is required.
- Experience working with the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement is desirable.
- Oral and written fluency in Spanish and English is a requirement.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to build relationships at all levels.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability and agreement to adhere to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
- Preferably work experience in emergency contexts with volunteer management.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
