How can you make a difference? Key functions / responsibilities
The WASH Assistant will have the main responsibility of supporting and providing technical advice on water, sanitation and hygiene projects, in activities, meetings, training, socializations, in maintenance of water treatment plants and water purification systems, and in management of project resources.
He/she will be in charge of:
- Development, execution, monitoring and closure of projects in Maracaibo, San Cristóbal, Guasdualito and San Fernando de Apure that involve water, sanitation and hygiene issues.
- Support the implementation and compliance of all rules and regulations for the acquisition of materials, goods or services established by the CRV and outlined in the project operating agreements.
- Coordinate with field teams in subsidiaries on WASH-related activities.
- Supervise and carry out technical and economic monitoring of the activities of water, sanitation and hygiene projects.
- Support for plans and programmes on safe water, basic sanitation and hygiene promotion in emergencies.
- Support the formulation of actions, programs and projects with the participation of the actors involved in the sector, aimed at the efficient use and saving of water resources and the prevention of contamination of water sources, with a focus on climate change.
- Supervise technical studies of water resource needs and availability.
- Install and verify water supply and wastewater treatment networks in areas identified as priorities for the project.
- Install and verify safe water collection and treatment infrastructure.
- Perform periodic maintenance and inventory of water and sanitation equipment found in public health centers and branches.
- Prepare project monitoring reports for the WASH area.
- Control, verify and track the inventory of equipment in your project area nationwide.
- Carry out and monitor the maintenance schedule for the area’s equipment.
- Faithfully comply with, respect and abide by all obligations and prohibitions enshrined in current national laws, as well as the CRV’s internal control mechanism.
- Comply with all policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines and/or similar established by the CRV for the correct and safe development of project activities.
- Comply with all provisions contained in the codes of conduct or any other similar provisions that are currently or in the future issued within the institution.
Report
The WASH Assistant will report to the National Project Coordinator.
Trips
Must be available to travel within the country.
Teams
It is highly desirable that you have sufficient equipment to perform your function remotely: laptop and/or computer, good Internet connection, among others.
Workplace
This position will accept applications from Caracas and San Cristóbal.
Project time
Until June 30, 2025
To qualify as a builder of the Venezuelan humanitarian system you must meet the following requirements:
- University degree in civil, mechanical, industrial, electrical engineering, or similar.
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in managing community projects involving water, sanitation and hygiene components.
- Experience in training staff on water, sanitation and hygiene issues to raise community awareness.
- Proven experience of two (2) years in the maintenance and operation of equipment necessary for water and sanitation operations, motors, motor pumps and generators.
- Experience in training personnel in the operation and maintenance of engines, motor pumps, generators and other equipment.
- Experience in the installation and/or commissioning of mechanical equipment relevant to water and sanitation.
- Specific knowledge and training in community work in water, sanitation and hygiene, if possible with the Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation (PHAST) strategy.
- Knowledge and proven experience in project monitoring in the area of materials, legalization and operation.
- Ability to work with a multicultural team.
- Experience working with the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement is desirable.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to build relationships at all levels.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability and agreement to adhere to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
