Video and Blended Learning Curriculum Designer At Aga Khan Foundation

About Aga Khan Foundation East Africa

The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of private not-for profit, non-denominational international development agencies, institutions and programmes that work primarily in the poorest parts of Africa and Asia to improve the quality of life of communities in remote and resource poor areas (www.akdn.org). Globally, AKF seeks sustainable solutions to long-term problems of poverty, hunger, illiteracy, and ill-health, with special emphasis on the needs of rural communities in mountainous, coastal, and other resource-poor areas. In East Africa, AKF works with partners to improve the quality of life by promoting and developing innovative solutions to challenges of development in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Reflecting the complex and multi-faceted nature of development, AKF operates a multi-sectoral portfolio that includes programming in Education, Economic Inclusion, Civil Society, Health and Early Childhood Development.

About Yetu Initiative

In Kenya, Yetu Initiative works with civil society organizations (CSOs) and local development organizations (LDOs) rooted in the communities they serve to advance the principles of self-reliance and locally sustained development. Yetu builds the capacity of these county-level organizations to engage and catalyze the citizen, government, and private sector for county-led development. CSOs and LDOs leverage community assets, capacity, and trust for community philanthropy. Yetu (“Ours” in Kiswahili), is a Global Development Alliance activity, funded by USAID and the Aga Khan Foundation.

Yetu Bootcamp is an integrated capacity-building model within the community philanthropy program that enables Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to quickly and effectively gain skills to engage in local philanthropy. Through a learning-by-doing method, CSOs participate in workshops, coaching, mentoring, and peer learning over a specified period where they practice and improve their skills in local resource mobilization.

Key skills that the CSOs learn during the bootcamp include making effective presentations, communication, and marketing, media engagement, digital fundraising, events fundraising, engaging with the private sector, getting funding from high-net-worth individuals among others. The CSOs also benefit from intensive, focused peer learning that motivates and makes them understand that the challenges they face in their journey to sustainability are not isolated and can be solved. During the bootcamp period, CSOs launch their engagement and fundraising campaigns and begin mobilizing funds using various fundraising strategies they have learned.
