Job Summary:

IRI is creating student and employee partnerships that facilitate the growth and development of IRI’s future leadership. Working virtually with staff originally based in IRI’s Washington, DC headquarters, the intern will support the Asia-Pacific Division’s program teams.
Interns will learn about time management and work on tasks in a fast-paced international affairs environment. Other professional learning opportunities include attending panels and relevant democracy and government program support.
This position will start in January 2022 for no more than sixteen (16) weeks and may not be extended. This is a paid position, at $15.20 per hour.

Position Requirements:
- Current student in or recent graduate of an undergraduate or graduate program in Political Science, International Affairs,
- Excellent verbal and written skills in English
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills
- Flexibility to changing situations and priorities
Responsibilities:
- Assists staff with program activities, events, and training sessions
- Supports database system and database management
- Monitors domestic and international media outlets for Asia regional updates and briefs the relevant teams
- Writes as a contributor to IRI’s blogs
- Create standard “How To” guides as needed
- Assists in researching a variety of topics for briefing papers, program proposals, and reports
- Assists in preparing reports and presentations
- Provides administrative support
- Performs other duties as assigned
Learning Outcomes:
- Grant lifecycle – The intern will understand a grant’s project lifecycle: identification of problem, proposal development, implementation, report writing, and the many other facets of programming in Asia.
- Variety of programming – The intern will work closely and become a member of one TBD team, to understand the specifics of that team, but also work ad hoc with other teams to understand how IRI’s work differs from country to country.
- Admin and research – The twin, yet often hidden, backbones of almost any organization are effective administration and strong research to inform decision-making. The intern will see the importance of these two areas up close.
