Volunteer Coordinator At Open Cultural Center

Open Cultural Center (OCC) was established in 2016 in response to the European refugee crisis, and now manages cultural centers and residential programs for migrants and refugees in Spain and Greece. We are a small international team united by a commitment to break down barriers to social inclusion for migrants and refugees. We are active and growing, largely due to the support of a large number of volunteers. OCC emphasize the importance of participation and empowerment, developing autonomy, building communities and intercultural exchange. Our main projects include:

  • Early childhood education center.
  • Socio-educational activities with children and youth.
  • Education activities for adults.
  • Women Space.
  • Transport and mobility projects to connect refugee camps to urban areas.
  • European Union projects that foster social innovation and exchange of best practices.

The Volunteer Coordinator supports OCC volunteers in their daily activities. She/he welcomes them in Polykastro and represents a point of reference for the volunteers during their stay at OCC. Additionally, the Volunteer Coordinator oversees the spaces, the apartment and the overall logistics. The Volunteer Coordinator participates in organizational strategy and evolution as a member of the OCC core management group.

Responsibilities and tasks

  • Support OCC volunteers in their daily activities and represent a point of reference during their stay.
  • Manage the welcoming and the induction of the new volunteers.
  • Organise personal and ad hoc sessions with volunteers, to check performances, progresses and potential challenges.
  • Fill the weekly schedule in collaboration with the Site Coordinator and report to him/her about his/her area of responsibility.
  • Oversee the good maintenance of the working spaces and the apartments in collaboration with the Site Coordinator.
  • Participate in the weekly management meetings.
  • Plan and implement team building activities in collaboration with Project Coordinator.
  • Αssist the Monitoring and Evaluation team in the performance of their duties.
  • Assist with the resolving of conflicts between volunteers as they occur, check the wellbeing of the volunteers during their presence.
  • Oversee the volunteer’s compliance with the organisation’s policies and code of conduct.

Competencies and skills

  • Bachelor degree on Social Sciences/Business or Public Administration, Migration/Education or similar with at least 1 year of experience in a similar position or high school diploma with at least 3 years of experience working in a similar position.
  • Advanced university degree will be considered an asset.
  • Advanced skills on MS Office, Google Drive.
  • Knowledge of the values and objectives of the European Solidarity Corps program.
  • High levels of organization.
  • Ability to speak English fluently both written and oral. Knowledge of Spanish, French or/and Arabic is an asset.
  • Multitasking and prioritizing.
  • Ability to oversee volunteers.
  • Commitment to the mission of OCC, the project objectives, and the volunteer team.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work in teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to identify opportunities through a holistic vision of the project.
  • Driving license with at least 1 year of experience will be considered an asset.

What we offer

  • Full-time position with a Greek contract

  • Salary of 800 euros/month net for 14 payments, and a holiday period of 5 weeks per year.
