Volunteer Driver for Mobile Clinic At Doctors of the World UK

Doctors of the World UK is part of the global Médecins du Monde network, which delivers over 300 projects in more than 70 countries through 3,000 volunteers.

Our vision is of a world in which vulnerable people affected by war, natural disasters, disease, hunger, poverty or exclusion get the healthcare they need.

Through our health programmes and advocacy, we work to ensure excluded people overcome barriers to realising their right to healthcare. Since opening in the UK in 1998, we’ve raised £6m for overseas programmes, helped 7,000 service users here and fought for healthcare as a human right for all.

DOTW’s outreach services are delivered across London boroughs, to provide our healthcare advocacy services to marginalised groups. We are seeking volunteers to support our outreach team by driving our mobile clinic vans to and from our outreach locations.

We currently run mobile clinics once a week in Enfield supporting the Gypsy, Roma, Traveller communities to access healthcare. We also run street-based outreach in Tower Hamlets supporting those experiencing homelessness (we do not use the mobile clinic for these sessions). We are constantly getting requests for our mobile clinic and outreach services, so these are likely to grow and change over time.

[AK1] The role would require you to provide essential support to our outreach teams by driving one of our two vans to and from mobile clinic locations. It is a simple and highly effective way of contributing to DOTW’s work and being part of a team that delivers services to vulnerable and marginalised communities throughout London.

You would stay with the van during a clinic in case it needed to be moved. A typical outreach session lasts about 4 hours (this does not include travel time)

These vans are non-articulated and can be driven with a normal driving licence.

The types of outreach we carry out are outlined in the person specification.

Those with lived experience of migration, the asylum system, homelessness or exclusion from health services are encouraged to apply.

For more information on the role, including a person specification, please refer to the role profile.
