After the arrival of over 20,000 people to the Canary Islands in 2020 AFE have started our first project in Spain. Our aim is to support existing educational programs. To do so, we are developing a mobile phone application so that students can learn Spanish from their mother-tongue languages (Bambara, Wolof, Soninke, Arabic). This App responds to the immediate and everyday linguistic needs of people on the move that arrive in Spain. We are also designing a teacher training course for the volunteers that are running Spanish lessons, a teacher’s manual and free educational resources.
AFE are looking for someone to fill an unpaid volunteer position to help with fundraising (developing a strategic plan for the coming months), applying for international grants, contacting businesses and bigger NGOs that can sponsor/fund our Spanish phone App ¡Ojalá!, social media, spreading the word / general admin and communications tasks. This role requires B1 Level Spanish.
We are looking for someone who can commit to at least one month. Please note that while we have a volunteer apartment we do ask that volunteers cover half of the cost – equalling about 125 euros a month – as we are still working to get the project off the ground.
