WASH Coordinator – Global Surge Team At Austrian Red Cross

Austrian Red Cross (AutRC) is looking for an experienced and flexible WASH Manager as part of its standing surge capacity for deployments in disaster and crisis response. The purpose of this position is to manage or coordinate the WASH response in disasters and crises globally. When not deployed, the global surge team members will contribute to ongoing capacity development and readiness activities of AutRC’s Department for International Disaster & Crisis, or upon request of other departments of the Austrian Red Cross.

Main duties & responsibilities:

  • Deploy globally in emergency response operations with the AutRC, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), or other National Societies
  • Assess, manage, and coordinate WASH interventions of emergency response and recovery operations, ensuring an efficient and effective management of resources
  • Lead WASH teams in emergency operations, including in (yet not limited to) positions such as RR WASH Coordinator, or as Teamleader of WASH Emergency Response Units
  • Support the WASH regionalization efforts of the AutRC and the RCRC Movement in Africa, in collaboration with all Movement partners (with the option to be temporarily based in Nairobi/Kenya)
  • Upon request design, deliver, and facilitate Emergency WASH trainings, and support other learning, preparedness, and development activities to improve future WASH response activities
  • Undertake specific projects or tasks as defined / agreed by the Department of Intl. Disaster & Crisis
  • Contribute to the development of partnerships, including private sector organizations and academia, and to the preparation of proposals for donors / partners

Requirements:

  • Valid Austrian (or EU) work permit
  • University degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, hygiene promotion or other relevant fields, or equivalent education and/or experience
  • Several years of experience in developing and managing WASH programmes including personnel, budget, and financial management to ensure compliance
  • Field experience of managing or coordinating WASH emergency response and recovery operations, including proposal development and reporting, with a minimum of three WASH deployments in Surge Operations
  • Proven track record of conducting / facilitating WASH trainings
  • Expertise in Emergency WASH preparedness, research and innovation in the WASH sector, or Information Management is a strong asset
  • Red Cross/Red Crescent working experience and strong understanding of IFRC Surge Tools, as well as WASH Cluster Coordination experience are advantages
  • Completion of IFRC Leadership trainings (e.g., ETL, CAP, OMT) is an advantage
  • CVA, PGI, CEA, or Green Response knowledge is an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills, good analytical thinking, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively and build relationships, cultural versatility
  • Oral and written fluency in English. German and/or another official IFRC language is an advantage

Job Location: Vienna/Austria (partial home-based work is possible), with regular deployments

Working time: full-time

Compensation: depends on qualification and experience, minimum monthly all-in salary of € 4.255,50 gross plus salary valorization for 2024

Start of employment: as soon as possible

Duration of assignment: December 31, 2024
