The Department of Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness and Prevention (EPP) advances global efforts to prevent and control existing and emerging infectious diseases by increasing access to evidence-based interventions; fostering impactful innovation; and leveraging technical, operational and strategic partnerships. It aims to ensure the rapid, systematic and timely sharing of influenza viruses with pandemic potential, on the one hand, and the fair and equitable access to benefits arising from such sharing, on the other. The PIP Framework has three main components: the sharing of influenza viruses with human pandemic potential, with laboratories of the Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (also known as GISRS) ; benefit sharing through two mechanisms – the Standard Material Transfer Agreements and the Partnership Contribution; and governance.
