About the Position

BRAC USA seeks an experienced Writer and Researcher on Youth Empowerment Programming with excellent writing and research skills to conduct a series of learning exercises exploring BRAC’s ELA program and girls’ empowerment programs more broadly. The consultancy will last three to four months but all work must be completed no later than April 30, 2022.

Primary Responsibilities

● Conduct a brief review of evidence and documentation in the public domain covering non-BRAC girls’ empowerment programs, to situate the ELA project in a wider context of similar programming

● Conduct a thorough review of the existing studies on ELA to thoroughly understand the evidence for the program’s impact in various settings

● Review extensive internal and donor-facing program documentation provided by BRAC covering 15 years of the ELA journey

● Conduct a series of interviews with staff who have worked on the program for a number of years, plus outside researchers and other stakeholders, to understand programmatic insights that have not been recorded by the existing documentation and literature; these stakeholders may include ELA graduates or their employers

● Draft a paper with lessons learned from the learning exercises described above

Qualifications

● A demonstrated passion for international development and BRAC’s mission.

● Knowledge of programming for adolescent girls and young women.

● Experience conducting knowledge and/or research based consultancies with a track record of producing high-quality deliverables.

● Qualitative research experience including developing key informant interview guides, conducting interviews remotely, transcribing interview recordings, and systematically analyzing data.

● Adept at interpreting and synthesizing scholarly research articles and white papers

● Ability to handle confidential and/or sensitive information.

● Excellent writing and storytelling skills.
