JOB SUMMARY:

The Media Officer is responsible for creating high-quality visual content that supports the organization’s communication goals. This role involves capturing, editing, and producing photos and videos that effectively tell the story of our projects and initiatives. The position will involve both office-based and field-based work, including travel to project sites. The specialist will work closely with the Media and Communications team and other program departments to ensure all visual content aligns with the organization’s branding and messaging guidelines. The role requires creative and technical expertise in visual storytelling, with a focus on ethical and impactful representation. The Media Officer reports to External Relations Manager.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, shoot, and produce engaging photos and videos for various platforms, including social media, websites, and internal communications.
  • Collaborate with program teams to understand project needs and develop visual content that supports organizational objectives.
  • Set up and manage photo and video shoots, including the arrangement of lighting, sound, and camera equipment.
  • Edit and finalize content using professional editing software, ensuring a high standard of quality and consistency.
  • Maintain an organized archive of all visual assets, ensuring easy access and retrieval.
  • Ensure all visual content adheres to ethical standards, particularly in representing beneficiaries.
  • Manage the visibility of logos and branding elements in all visuals, avoiding any images that could lead to criticism or misinterpretation.
  • Provide input on visual strategy and content planning to enhance overall communication efforts.
  • Assist the line manager upon her/his request.
  • Executing the required documentation processes for the Programs Department and donors to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Providing two version of photographs – in low and high resolution and selecting the 30 most relevant photographs to be uploaded and sent to the program team as per specification.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that both managers and Senior Program Officer
  • receive video copies of projects activities in a timely manner and according to pre-agreed deadlines and specifications.
  • Prepare Media Annual Report.
  • Organize all Media events, activities related to IR Syria Offices.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Photography, Film Production, Visual Arts, Media, Communication or a related field (required)
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in photography and video production, ideally within the non-profit or humanitarian sectors (required)
  • Proven portfolio demonstrating expertise in photography and videography, including editing and post-production skills (required)
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom) or other industry-standard (Final Cut Pro) photo and video editing software (required)
  • Strong technical skills in using DSLR cameras, video cameras, lighting, and audio equipment
  • Creative and detail-oriented with a strong understanding of visual storytelling techniques
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in Arabic (required)
  • Proficiency in English (required)
  • Familiarity with graphic design software and basic motion graphics is an advantage.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management tools.

VII. Protection and Safeguarding Awareness

  • Awareness of child protection principles and safeguarding of vulnerable populations.
  • Knowledge of institutional safeguarding frameworks and policies, including Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).
  • Participation in protection-related trainings and familiarity with reporting mechanisms for misconduct or violations.
