Search and Rescue Team Leader At MSF – Holland

The SAR team leader is the overall responsible person for the search and rescue team and is the team leader during all SAR activities. During patrol and SAR operations, the SAR team leader is on the bridge and works in close cooperation with the captain. The SAR team leader is the communication focal point for liaising with rescue authorities and other SAR assets on shore.

The SAR team leader is responsible for training and developing the SAR team. He/she may delegate operational tasks to the Deputy SAR team leader. The Search and Rescue Team Leader will rotate on and off the ship and will be required to work on land.

Main responsibilities

• Oversee the safety of staff on-board during operations and work with PC to implement best working practices in a maritime environment

• Prepare Maritime Incident reports

• Oversee training of SAR team on MSF validated SAR procedures

• Maintain and improve the SAR setup on the ship

• Manage the ordering of rescue equipment

• Participate in first aid trainings onboard

• Coordinate, supervise, coach and support SAR team members at sea and on land.

• Work to improve the SAR components of the project and ensure compliance with MSF protocols and standards both at sea and on land

• While on land, liaise with maritime authorities and other SAR actors

• Work on updating SOPs and other documentation to maintain compliance with safety standards

• Support SAR representative and SAR advisor in their duties

Your profile

A strong leader and people manager, experienced in building teams and with the ability to motivate and inspire the team members to work towards a common purpose.

• Team management.

• Strong communication skills including report writing

• Experience in negotiation

• Ability to work in stressful situations and make critical decisions

• English fluent, French, Italian and Arabic a plus
