The Legal Advisor oversees and manages the provision of all legal services to the organization to ensure maximum protection of its legal rights and to keep its operations within the limits established by law and donor regulations. In addition, the Legal Advisor provides strategic guidance, consultation and support to senior management on a wide range of legal and associated issues involved in fulfilling the organization’s mission.

The main activities you will perform are the following:

  • Creating and improving mechanisms and processes to comply with our legal obligations, ensuring the updating of applicable legislation, recommending control activities in our compliance framework, monitoring the implementation of existing legislation in the Organisation and performing ad-hoc and preventive controls in all sectors of the organisation.
  • Providing advice: Leading the process of all consultations and administrative management with external law firms and legal matters with all our stakeholders, providing accurate and timely advice to management to adopt efficient strategies on a range of legal and regulatory issues and providing accurate legal guidance to executive staff on all matters affecting the organisation, as well as to focal points in headquarters and offices in our countries of operation.
  • Document review and management, including drafting and/or consolidating agreements, contracts and other legal documents, including letters of allegation and investigation reports to ensure the organisation’s full legal and regulatory compliance, reviewing the organisation’s contract templates and memoranda of agreement, and supporting missions on a regular basis to ensure that all agreements are legally and regulatory compliant.
  • Represent and promote the interests of the organisation in case of internal or administrative audits, investigations or litigation, and manage or support with legal and regulatory systems and procedures related in particular to filtering against international blacklists, licences for sanctioned exemptions and procedures with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (impact assessments…).and deliver the necessary training sessions to groups of employees to ensure compliance with applicable legislation.

Does this description fit you?

  • Qualifications: Preferably a university degree in law, politics, international relations or similar. Additional training in European law and/or US law or equivalent training would be an asset.
  • Specific expertise: Knowledge of social action programmes and International Cooperation (Humanitarian/Development). General knowledge of legal, administrative rules and information. (corporate law, litigation, etc.). Knowledge of international procurement law. Understanding of national and international regulations.
  • Previous experience: More than 5 years experience in international cooperation organisations and social action programmes.
  • Knowledge of Action Against Hunger: Not mandatory, but always with mandatory knowledge of the international cooperation sector (humanitarian or development) and social action programmes / international NGOs.
  • Languages: Spanish and English; French highly valued.
