Background
As part of its livelihoods initiative to enhance the socio-economic inclusion of persons with disabilities (PWDs), AGO will deliver a 40-day vocational training course in the maintenance and installation of solar panels. This training responds directly to the increasing demand for renewable energy solutions and the outcomes of the gender and disability-sensitive market assessment conducted .
The solar energy sector in eastern Syria, particularly in Hajin, shows strong potential due to inconsistent electricity supplies and a growing reliance on solar solutions. This training aims to equip PWDs with practical skills and market-relevant competencies to enable them to secure employment or start small-scale solar services in their communities.
Objectives of the Training
- Equip participants with the foundational knowledge of solar energy systems and components.
- Develop practical skills in installing, wiring, and maintaining solar panels.
- Enhance understanding of safety protocols and diagnostic procedures.
- Promote environmentally sustainable solutions and energy entrepreneurship.
- Strengthen technical independence and economic empowerment among PWDs.
Training Methodology
- Theoretical Sessions:Â Covering electricity basics, solar panel types, energy storage systems, system design, and troubleshooting.
- Practical Applications:Â Hands-on activities involving solar panel mounting, wiring, inverter configuration, battery connection, and real-time maintenance scenarios.
- Inclusive Training Environment:Â Provision of accessible space, tools adapted for persons with physical limitations, and inclusive teaching methods.
- Trainer Preparation:Â Trainers will be oriented in disability inclusion, accessible instruction, and adaptive teaching strategies.
Expected Outcomes
By the end of the training, participants are expected to:
- Understand the components and functioning of solar power systems.
- Be able to safely install, connect, and maintain solar panels and related devices.
- Diagnose common faults and perform repairs.
- Apply safety measures in handling electrical components.
- Explore opportunities for employment or launching micro-businesses in solar energy services.
Target Group
- Persons with disabilities (PWDs) residing in Hajin and surrounding areas, including returnees, host, and displaced populations.
- Participants should demonstrate basic literacy and interest in technical fields, especially renewable energy.
Trainers’ Responsibilities
- Deliver both theoretical instruction and hands-on sessions tailored to the curriculum.
- Ensure safety and accessibility for all trainees.
- Assess participant understanding and support individual learning needs.
- Maintain equipment, ensure tool readiness, and supervise all practical sessions.
- Contribute to training documentation, assessment, and reporting.
AGO Responsibilities
- Provide training kits, protective gear, and solar installation tools.
- Ensure accessible venue and coordinate logistical support (transportation, refreshments, etc.).
- Offer assistive devices as needed (visual diagrams, simplified manuals, etc.).
- Monitor training quality and collect feedback from both trainers and participants.
- Facilitate follow-up and potential linkages with job or business opportunities post-training.
Follow-up Mechanism
- Pre/Post-Training Assessment:Â To measure knowledge acquisition and practical skill growth.
- Daily Participation Tracking:Â For consistency and commitment monitoring.
- Feedback Forms:Â To capture satisfaction levels and areas for improvement.
- Post-Training Support:Â AGO will explore pathways for internships, job referrals, or starter kits for micro-enterprise initiatives.
