Médecins Sans Frontières, an international humanitarian medical association founded in 1971, provides medical assistance to populations whose lives are threatened: primarily in cases of armed conflict, but also epidemics, pandemics, natural disasters, or even exclusion from healthcare.
Under the direct authority of the Executive Manager of the Dakar office, and in close collaboration with the regional intersection communications department.
Mission
The Internal Communications Officer will be responsible for:
- Implement the internal communication action plan for the regional office, with the aim of improving team spirit, strengthening knowledge sharing and information exchange between MSF sections involved in Dakar and in the region, and reaching out to members of the MSF movement worldwide to raise awareness of operational support from Dakar.
- The Internal Communications Officer will be responsible for managing and facilitating the various internal communications platforms used by the MSF regional office in Dakar (e.g. Souk, SharePoint, Newsletter, Asana, Whatsapp group, etc.).
- She/he will be responsible for coordinating the management and dissemination of MSF’s internal debates and other hybrid events (in person and/or online) related to the operational themes of the Dakar office.
- She/he will also ensure the animation of the associative life of the office in collaboration with the association leaders of the movement and will coordinate the new project of the documentation and information center of the office
Main responsibilities
- In line with the Strategic Plan of the Dakar Office, develop and implement the office’s annual internal communication action plan and identify appropriate communication channels and dissemination methods;
- Analyze the different needs and expectations in terms of internal communication and propose priority actions as well as planning to meet them.
- Identify different priority internal audiences for information sharing
- Identify all available and appropriate internal communication platforms, ensure their efficient use by the Dakar office and ensure the regular dissemination of relevant information via these internal platforms
- Ensure that regional and international events are included in the calendar shared with the Executive Manager
- Coordinate the collection of necessary information as well as the drafting and dissemination of qualitative reports of meetings, steering committees, conferences and workshops organized in Dakar as well as for the preparation of reports on lessons learned and other information materials related to MSF operations in the region;
- Coordinate initiatives for knowledge building and sharing
- Organize and lead events, workshops, internal discussions with a view to sharing knowledge and reflections related to MSF’s key themes in the region;
- Write and disseminate summaries and reports to improve knowledge sharing between sections – MSF and different departments;
- Coordinate the collection of information with a view to producing regular summaries as well as ensuring the production of an annual report on the activities of the operational support provided in Dakar with a view to sharing it with the entire movement
- Coordinate community life in Dakar as an association focal point and improve employee participation in the life of the organization.
- Ensure the organization of association events in Dakar in collaboration with the movement’s association leaders, and develop innovative event formats to encourage the commitment and participation of MSF teams and partners
- Relay important information regarding MSF General Assemblies and Boards of Directors of all sections and improve the participation of all employees in discussions that concern them.
- Develop attractive and innovative internal communication tools and actions to generate interest and engagement.
Profile sought
Education: Bac + 3 at least, preferably diploma in communication, psychology, social and/or humanitarian sciences, law
Experience :
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar position or communications and operational support
- 1 year of experience with a humanitarian NGO is an asset
SKILLS :
- Proficiency in computer tools, Windows
- Mastering CAPCUT software for video editing
- Master CANVA software for graphics and the creation of visual media
- Master the MAILCHIMP software to create online newsletters
- Master techniques for taking photos and videos
Languages: Good written and oral communication in French and fluency in English is mandatory.
