Business Development Advisor At Doctors of the World Canada

OUR CHALLENGE

The Business Development Advisor (BDA) plays a key role in identifying and securing funding for Doctors of the World Canada’s international operations. By collaborating closely with international network partners, they ensure that Canadian funding opportunities are aligned with relevant projects. This role includes researching funding opportunities, writing and submitting proposals, and maintaining strong relationships with funders to support the organization’s international operations.

Your main responsibilities will be as follows (non-exhaustive and evolving list):

  • Monitor and analyze funding opportunities related to MdM Canada’s strategic priorities.
  • Develop concept notes, project proposals and funding requests with operational and technical teams.
  • Ensure strategic monitoring of trends in humanitarian and development funding.
  • In close coordination with the Philanthropy Department, explore and develop relationships with foundations, corporations and non-governmental donors.
  • Identify and negotiate partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Represent MdM Canada with donors and strategic partners at relevant meetings and events.
  • Collaborate with field teams, the international MdM network and partners to identify needs and develop appropriate responses.
  • Contribute to the drafting of project proposals, ensuring consistency with donor requirements.
  • Coordinate project submissions according to required quality criteria and deadlines.

  • Temporary position 12 months
  • Start date as soon as possible
  • Compensation according to the MdM Canada salary scale (from CA$60,824 to CA$82,291)
  • 35-hour workweek schedule combining in-person and remote work
  • 3 weeks of vacation pro rata to the date of entry into the position, then 4 weeks of vacation to be accumulated from one year of continuous service

YOUR PROFILE

  • University degree in international relations, international development, project management or any other relevant field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in business development, fundraising or partnership management in the humanitarian or international development sector
  • Excellent knowledge of Canadian (AMC, MRIF, Grand Challenges Canada, Humanitarian Coalition, etc.) and international donor funding mechanisms
  • Knowledge of financing mechanisms and good understanding of the issues related to international cooperation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 suite programs
  • Fluency in written and spoken French and English, Spanish an asset due to close collaboration with international partners and donors
  • Excellent analytical skills and proven ability to write compelling funding proposals (concept notes, proposals, logical frameworks, budgets)
  • Experience in managing relationships with funders and strategic partners
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple files in parallel and coordinate remote teams
  • Autonomy, rigor, organizational skills, proactivity, creativity in the search for opportunities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, diplomacy and a sense of humor
