AVSI Foundation is a third-sector organization that, through development cooperation projects in 41 countries across a variety of sectors, strives to create a world where people are the protagonists of their own and their communities’ human journey in all contexts. AVSI employs approximately 2,000 people, implementing over 300 projects that reach 4 million people.

📢 This proposal intervenes in the governorates of Baghdad, Thi Qar, and Qadisiya to support the economic development of vulnerable families, with a particular focus on persons with disabilities and women survivors of violence, through the provision of technical skills and employment opportunities. At the same time, the initiative supports the Iraqi private sector (SMEs and start-ups) by offering tools to launch, revitalize, or develop micro and small-scale production activities, as well as facilitating access to employment.

🎯 Main responsibilities:

In carrying out his/her duties, the Project Manager will work under the direct supervision of the Country Representative and will coordinate with the Country Administrator, project staff, donor and partners.

Its main tasks will be the following:

  • Plan and implement activities according to project documents: from the implementation phase to beneficiary selection, purchasing, launching of activities, management and monitoring of results;
  • Manage the recruitment, coordination, training and mentoring of project staff to achieve objectives;
  • Ensure project reporting according to deadlines;
  • Collaborate with the Country Administrator on budgeting, forecasting and control of financial flows and planning and with the Country Representative;
  • Manage any changes or extensions to the project;
  • Ensure that all activities are in line with AVSI donor procedures and rules ;
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of the technical information provided to the donor and AVSI ;
  • Actively participate in relevant coordination meetings and ensure strong professional relationships with other humanitarian organizations operating in the Region to avoid duplication of effort and ensure coordination between project objectives and the humanitarian response in the Region;
  • Manage relationships with partners and donors.

The Project Manager will report directly to the Country Representative

💰 Net monthly salary between 1,900 and 2,100 euros

📑 Essential requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent Master’s degree) in social sciences or economics. Other degrees of the same level (e.g., economics, management, international cooperation) may also be considered if accompanied by specific sector-specific experience.
  • Documented experience of at least three years in the coordination and management of international cooperation projects on behalf of public institutions and/or international organizations, with particular reference to the MENA region and the management of projects funded by AICS
  • Administrative and financial skills, project budget management, reporting
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills at local level
  • Excellent knowledge of Italian and English (written and spoken)

📑 Other Requirements:

  • Excellent knowledge of the Office package (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and internet navigation and communication tools
  • Proactivity, autonomy and flexibility
  • Previous work experience in Iraq and knowledge of its social, economic and political dynamics
  • Knowledge of Arabic appreciated
