Description of the context and the project: VIS – Volontariato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo (International Volunteering for Development) is a non-governmental organization active since 1986 in the fields of development cooperation and global citizenship education. Inspired by the charism of Don Bosco, it works in more than 30 countries through development and emergency response projects, in partnership with the Salesian network, civil society, and public institutions.

In Côte d’Ivoire, VIS will open a new permanent office in Abidjan in 2025, promoting initiatives to foster local development and create economic opportunities for young people, with a focus on vocational training, job placement, and support for self-employment. Particular attention will be paid to vulnerable youth, including girls, migrants, returning migrants, and people with disabilities.

The project “CASA Cooperazione al Servizio dell’Apprendimento in Costa d’Avorio” (in English: CASA Cooperation in the Service of Learning in Ivory Coast), lasting 36 months and funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), is part of this strategy and aims to improve the Ivorian education system in order to offer all children and adolescents quality, equitable and inclusive education and training, capable of generating opportunities for social inclusion and well-being, in line with Sustainable Development Goals 4 (targets 4.1, 4.2, 4.4, 4.6, 4.7, 4.a, 4.c) and 8 (target 8.5). The project aims to create an educational alliance between the different local communities and the 20 schools in the municipalities of Treichville, Cocody, Anyama and Koumassi (Abidjan), in order to promote a school model that defines education as learning, that works on transversal skills and that embraces digital transformation by focusing on gender issues, disability and special educational needs, and that offers the most vulnerable young people concrete opportunities for academic, social and professional growth based on equality and equity, in accordance with the Ivorian government’s Education/Training Sector Plan 2016-2025.

The project partnership comprises FADV (lead CSO) and VIS (Italian CSO) in ATS, Salesians of Don Bosco, REMAR-CI, the NGO Femmes de Valeurs, RESAFEL, and the Practical School of the Ivorian Chamber of Commerce (EPCCI). It also benefits from partnerships with the Ivorian Ministry of Women, Family and Children (MFFE) and the Ivorian Chamber of Commerce (CCI). The intervention lasts 36 months and reaches a total of 11,730 direct beneficiaries.

Main responsibilities and objectives:

The Driver/Logistics Officer is responsible for driving the organization’s vehicles, primarily in the Abidjan region. They also support daily logistics operations, manage local procurement, and oversee the general maintenance of vehicles and base infrastructure. The position is based in Abidjan and involves close collaboration with the local team.

1. Transport and safety

  • Ensure the safe transport of project personnel, goods, documents and equipment.
  • Ensure strict adherence to the highway code and internal safety procedures.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of information processed during travel.

2. Vehicle Management

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on the assigned vehicle.
  • Monitor fuel consumption, ensure supply and manage fuel stocks.
  • Keep logbooks, tracking sheets, vehicle documents and maintenance reports up to date.
  • Check for the presence of emergency kits, warning triangles, insurance, and other mandatory equipment.

3. General logistics and purchasing

  • Organize and manage the logistics of the Abidjan base (deliveries, document collection, equipment installation, etc.).
  • Ensure the local purchase of goods and services related to the office’s needs, in compliance with operational procedures and deadlines.
  • Verify and monitor the correct implementation of purchases, in collaboration with suppliers and the accountant.
  • Ensure the filing and archiving of purchase records.

4. Infrastructure Management

  • Ensure the routine maintenance of the office (electricity, plumbing, structure, etc.).
  • Ensure the operational status of workstations (connection, telephony, security, etc.).
  • Maintain a clean, functional work environment that complies with current standards.

Report regularly on the progress of logistical tasks (reporting).

Requirements:

Knowledge and skills:

  • High school diploma
  • Valid driver’s license for light vehicles
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a driver, preferably in an NGO or public institution
  • Driving in urban and rural environments
  • Basic knowledge of automotive mechanics
  • Good knowledge of the Abidjan area and surrounding region
  • Ability to fill out logbooks and other simple documents
  • Security concepts in humanitarian contexts (desirable)
  • Native-level fluency in French (written and spoken)
  • Knowledge of Italian is an asset

Working conditions

  • Work location: Abidjan
  • Local 12-month contract in accordance with VIS’s contractual policy in Senegal
  • Full-time: 40 hours/week
  • Compensation in accordance with VIS’s local salary scale
