Description of the context and the project: VIS – Volontariato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo (International Volunteering for Development) is a non-governmental organization active since 1986 in the fields of development cooperation and global citizenship education. In Côte d’Ivoire, VIS will open a new permanent office in Abidjan in 2025, promoting initiatives to foster local development and create economic opportunities for young people, with a focus on vocational training, job placement, and support for self-employment. Particular attention will be paid to vulnerable youth, including girls, migrants, returning migrants, and people with disabilities.

The project “CASA Cooperazione al Servizio dell’Apprendimento in Costa d’Avorio” (in English: CASA Cooperation in the Service of Learning in Ivory Coast), lasting 36 months and funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), is part of this strategy and aims to improve the Ivorian education system in order to offer all children and adolescents quality, equitable and inclusive education and training, capable of generating opportunities for social inclusion and well-being, in line with Sustainable Development Goals 4 (targets 4.1, 4.2, 4.4, 4.6, 4.7, 4.a, 4.c) and 8 (target 8.5). The project aims to create an educational alliance between the different local communities and the 20 schools in the municipalities of Treichville, Cocody, Anyama and Koumassi (Abidjan), in order to promote a school model that defines education as learning, that works on transversal skills and that embraces digital transformation by focusing on gender issues, disability and special educational needs, and that offers the most vulnerable young people concrete opportunities for academic, social and professional growth based on equality and equity, in accordance with the Ivorian government’s Education/Training Sector Plan 2016-2025 .

The project partnership comprises FADV (lead CSO) and VIS (Italian CSO) in ATS, Salesians of Don Bosco, REMAR-CI, the NGO Femmes de Valeurs, RESAFEL, and the Practical School of the Ivorian Chamber of Commerce (EPCCI). It also benefits from a partnership with the Ivorian Ministry of Women, Family and Children (MFFE) and the Ivorian Chamber of Commerce (CCI)*.
