What are we doing…?
Desired start date: 15/07/2026
Mission duration: 12 months
Location : Goma
SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid organization that, for over 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflict and natural disasters by addressing their vital needs: water, food, and shelter. Particularly committed to combating diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death worldwide, SI implements its interventions with expertise in the areas of access to drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion, as well as in the essential areas of food security and livelihoods. Present in 26 countries, SI’s teams—a total of 3,200 people including expatriates, national staff, headquarters staff, and a few volunteers—operate with professionalism and dedication, respecting local cultures.
The mission
Solidarités International has been present in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2001 to respond to the humanitarian needs of populations affected by conflicts and natural disasters, while also contributing to the fight against epidemics.
The mission primarily operates in the sectors of food security and livelihoods (FSL), water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and multi-sectoral cash transfer assistance (direct cash or via vouchers). All our interventions incorporate a protection dimension, either across the board or through specific actions implemented with partners. Our programs cover both emergency response—particularly through rapid response mechanisms (SAFER) and so-called “second-line” interventions—and recovery and development activities in stabilized areas (AFD, SDC). This approach reflects the mission’s strategy, which aims to maintain a strong emergency response capacity while developing sustainable solutions to the structural problems affecting the populations of eastern DRC.
The mission currently consists of a coordination unit and three operational bases: in North Kivu (Goma, with a sub-base in Beni), in Ituri (Bunia, with sub-bases in Mahagi and Drodro), and in South Kivu (Uvira, with an operational presence in Fizi).
Description of the offer
General objective:
- The Grants Coordinator plays a key role in the development and monitoring of the mission’s partnership and financial strategy.
- He/she ensures interdepartmental coordination and provides strategic support to the mission on donor relations, contract cycle management, implementation partnership management, external compliance and accountability to donors.
- He/she is also responsible for drafting project proposals, in conjunction with the Deputy Country Director for Programmes.
Main Challenges:
– Recent opening of the South Kivu base: the team on the ground is still small to cover an area of strategic interest to donors, which means managing multiple proposals with limited human resources.
– Transition of US funding to Human Resources allocations.
– Strengthening support for the programmatic strategy.
– Advocacy with donors to increase the budget allocation for support functions.
– Strategic review of maintaining activities in North Kivu: ongoing three-year projects with a limited budget, in a context of funding shifting to other areas (particularly South Kivu).
– Coordination of the various teams and stakeholders to produce harmonized, accurate, and high-quality project documents.
Priorities for the first 2-3 months:
– Preparation for the 2027 “proposal season” (donor engagement and proposal launch).
– Active participation in the development of the overall 2027 strategy for the DRC mission.
– Monitoring of the IT teams and the national partner on the contractual aspects of the “RECAPAC” (AFD) partnership.
– Support for the handover of audit projects to the new Ethics and Compliance department.
Security :
The entire eastern region of the DRC is categorized as a level 4 security zone, and all operational areas remain particularly volatile. Regarding the major security constraints:
- Persistent instability in the area linked to the presence and activity of several armed groups;
- Logistical constraints due to the impassability of the roads, and the need to support the development of the area with a strengthening of the logistical structure in order to reduce security risks during field missions;
- Acceptance from communities is generally very good, but continuous community engagement is necessary to maintain this acceptance;
- Constant media disinformation that can increase psychosis in the area and must be disseminated quickly.
