Master’s Tutor for Child Health At Doctors Without Borders

CONTEXT

The MSF Academy for Healthcare is an intersectional training initiative of MSF created to contribute to improving the quality of healthcare in MSF-led or supported health services by strengthening the skills and capacities of healthcare workers through structured, competency-based, and recognized or accredited training programs. The MSF Academy for Healthcare has a growing portfolio of training programs that address the specific needs and learning objectives of different categories of healthcare workers in MSF-led or supported health services. All of these projects are selected in line with MSF’s overall medical operational priorities.

There is a strong emphasis on MSF’s national staff, but these programs increasingly also include staff from ministries of health, particularly in countries facing the greatest shortages of human resources in health.

About the Master’s program in Child Health:

The MSF Academy for Healthcare is preparing new training programs: a postgraduate-level “Master’s in Child Health” for French-speaking general practitioners working in MSF projects in French-speaking contexts; and training for heads of healthcare units, which will soon be piloted in an MSF project involving inpatient hospital services. This MSF Academy for Healthcare program is being developed in partnership with the University of Abomey-Calavi in Benin, with a view to accreditation as a Master’s in Child Health, with a launch planned for September 2026. It is being implemented in close collaboration with the MSF pediatric platform and other medical platforms.

The Master’s in Child Health is a 24-month, practice-oriented master’s program designed to develop the clinical skills of French-speaking general practitioners in Francophone Africa. This training focuses on the key skills required by clinicians working in pediatric and neonatal care facilities managed or supported by MSF, with the aim of impacting the quality of clinical care.

The program includes several modules and is based on continuous practice in a work setting, formalized through a series of supervised clinical placements.

The program is delivered through a blended learning format, combining self-study online learning content, live sessions, webinars, and two periods of in-person sessions. A team of MSF tutors is involved in the development and implementation of the two-year program and provides close individual support to learners to ensure optimal learning in the workplace. The program is delivered in French.
