Within the framework of the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM)’s work to build a society based on respect for and protection of the right to freedom of expression, and to support media work as a form of freedom of expression with a focus on including media professionals in transitional justice, and within its project related to media justice in Syria, the Media and Freedoms Program at the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression plans to conduct a study addressing:

Opportunities and Challenges of Including Accountability for Crimes Committed Against Journalists and Media Professionals within Transitional Justice Processes in Syria

SCM is seeking a field researcher based on the following technical requirements:

  • Contribute to the development of research tools in coordination with the principal investigator.
  • Prepare lists of respondents and target stakeholders.
  • Conduct individual interviews with journalists, media professionals, experts, and relevant parties.
  • Administer surveys and collect responses.
  • Document, transcribe, and organize interviews according to agreed-upon standards.
  • Prepare periodic field reports and memos.
  • Contribute to the analysis of preliminary results and the identification of key trends.
  • Support the organization of consultative meetings and meetings with relevant parties.
  • Adhere to the principles of confidentiality, protection, and research ethics.

Expected Deliverables:

  • Database of conducted interviews and questionnaires.
  • Transcripts of interviews and field observations.
  • Periodic follow-up reports.
  • Contribute to the analysis of preliminary results.

Required Documents:

  • Proof of experience in similar projects, including:
    • University degree in media, social sciences, law, or a related field.
    • At least three years of experience in field research or qualitative data collection.
    • Experience in conducting interviews and questionnaires.
    • Knowledge of the Syrian context and issues related to media and human rights.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust with participants.
    • Ability to travel within Syria when necessary.
  • Financial offer including:
    • The Financial compensation.
    • The validity of the offer (duration- date)

Location of Work:

  • Syria.

Evaluation criteria

  • (70%) – Tenderer’s experience with the topic‏ ‏and the capacity for similar searches
  • (30%). Financial offer

  • Preparing periodic field memos and reports.
  • Contributing to the analysis of preliminary results and the extraction of key trends.
  • Supporting the organization of consultative meetings and meetings with relevant stakeholders.
  • Adherence to the principles of confidentiality, protection, and research ethics.

Expected outputs:

  • A database of interviews and surveys conducted.
  • Transcripts of interviews and field observations.
  • Periodic follow-up reports.
  • Contribution to the analysis of preliminary results.

Required documents:

  • Proof of experience in similar projects, including:
  • A university degree in media, social sciences, law, or any related field.
  • At least three years of experience in field research or qualitative data collection.
  • Experience in conducting interviews and surveys.
  • Knowledge of the Syrian context, media issues, and human rights.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust with participants.
  • The ability to move around within Syria when needed.
  • A financial offer that includes:
    • Financial compensation is required.
    • Offer validity (work duration – offer expiry date)

Evaluation criteria:

  • The extent to which the applicant’s experience is relevant to the research topic and that he has conducted similar research (70%).
  • Financial offer (30%).
