Finance Intern

Organizational Context
The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is ministry of the Society of Jesus, incorporated as an international non-governmental organisation with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. The organisation was founded in November 1980 and now has a presence in over 50 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support and guidance of an International Office (IO) in Rome. The style of JRS service is human and spiritual, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term well-being of refugees and displaced people while not neglecting their immediate or urgent needs.
The main services provided are in the field of education, reconciliation, livelihood activities and psychosocial support. Currently, about 1 million individuals are direct beneficiaries of JRS projects worldwide.
Operational Context
The Finance Department in the International Office provides support and oversight for JRS operations in over 50 countries. Under the supervision of the Finance Director and in close collaboration with the IO Accountants, the Intern will contribute to essential financial processes and gain valuable experience in a multicultural environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support the accounts payable process:
- Review and allocate Country and Regional Office expenses to the IO budget
- Check salaries, invoices, transfer requests before payment can be processed
- Assist IO staff in using the system for procurement and payments
- Prepare financial transactions in the system
- Check and upload supporting documents in the system
Support the accounts receivable process:
- Prepare donation invoices in the system
- Import weekly Salesforce donations payout in accounting
- Prepare monthly reconciliations with the fundraising department for donations and income
- Ensure appropriate coding on transactions through regular analysis and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts
- Check and upload supporting documents in the system
Intercompany process:
- Prepare intercompany quarterly reconciliations for Country and Regional offices
- Support JRS regional and country offices in their request for transfers, reconciliation, audit process
Other:
- Assist with monthly bank reconciliations
- Support finance and logistics colleagues in their daily tasks.
- In coordination with the finance director, prepare the agenda and minutes for department meetings
- Assist on other activities as required.
Qualification and Competencies
- University degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting or in a related field
- Knowledge of finance, accounting and budget main principles
- Proficiency in written and verbal English
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multi-cultural, international, professional environment
- Good organizational skills and attention to details
Desirable:
- Working knowledge of other languages (French, Spanish)
- Knowledge of Navision Dynamics
