The Venezuelan Red Cross (CRV) is a humanitarian organization whose mandate is to save lives and improve the conditions of vulnerable people. As part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, it provides timely assistance in emergencies, disasters, and other humanitarian crises.

How can you make a difference? Key functions / Responsibilities
The Paramedic’s fundamental purpose is to provide pre-hospital care and support in the emergency care of the field hospital, ensuring the safe transfer of patients and the operational availability of the assigned equipment and ambulance, in accordance with the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
He/She will be in charge of:
- Prehospital care:Â Providing first aid and initial stabilization to patients at the scene of the emergency or during transport.
- Patient transfer:Â Driving and supporting the transfer of patients by ambulance to the field hospital or other referral centers, as well as internal transfers as required.
- Emergency support:Â Assist the medical and nursing team in the care of emergency cases within the field hospital.
- Availability and maintenance of equipment:Â Verify the operational status, cleanliness and basic equipment of the ambulance and assigned medical supplies.
- Reporting and incidents:Â Promptly inform the General Practitioner and the Health Officer about operational developments and service needs.
- Compliance with schedule and on-call duties:Â Comply with the service schedule from Monday to Friday (8:00 am to 5:00 pm) and with the on-call schedule every four (4) days (including weekends for emergencies) with the right to immediate post-on-call duty.
- Adherence to principles and instructions:Â Comply with all policies, procedures, protocols, Code of Conduct and institutional safety and hygiene standards (PSEA, PGI, IFRC Safety Framework).
- Other functions:Â Perform other functions and responsibilities related to pre-hospital care and medical-logistical support that are assigned by your immediate supervisor.
Report
The paramedic will report to the Health Officer and the Field Hospital Coordinator. They will coordinate technically with the General Practitioner, Nursing, and Logistics (ambulance and equipment maintenance).
Workplace
La Guaira State (Field Hospital – Operation Earthquake).
To qualify as a builder of the Venezuelan humanitarian system, you must meet the following requirements:
- Education:Â Certification as a Prehospital Care Technician (TAPH) or equivalent, granted by a recognized institution (Fire Department, Civil Protection, Venezuelan Red Cross or other certifying entity).
- Requirements and Licenses:
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) course.
- Valid driver’s license in the corresponding category for driving ambulances.
- Experience:Â Desirable prior experience in pre-hospital care, patient transfer or humanitarian/emergency care contexts.
- Technical Knowledge:Â Handling of pre-hospital equipment, stabilization protocols, life support and advanced first aid.
Skills and Competencies:
- Effective handling of emergency situations.
- Teamwork and smooth coordination with medical, nursing and logistics staff.
- Making quick and timely decisions under pressure.
- Effective communication.
- Adaptability to operate in emergency contexts and field facilities.
- Adherence and commitment to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
- Genuine interest in working in a humanitarian environment.
