Guard-Incentive Worker-Hazima At International Rescue Committee

An overview of the International Rescue Committee:

The Syrian crisis is often described as the worst humanitarian catastrophe since the end of the Cold War. Today, 13.4 million people in Syria—more than half the country’s population—need humanitarian assistance, with needs increasingly exacerbated by the deteriorating economic situation. Among them are 6.8 million refugees and asylum seekers who have fled the country. This is not a short-term humanitarian crisis. The devastating human consequences for vast numbers of people will last for decades. Repairing the destruction of relationships, communities, livelihoods, homes, and infrastructure will take years.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is providing a robust humanitarian response to the Syrian crisis through rapidly scaling programs, supported by more than 1,000 staff in its Syria Country Program. The IRC implements programs in Syria and neighboring countries Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon, and Jordan in the areas of health, child protection and early childhood development, education, women’s protection and empowerment, non-food items, food distribution, cash assistance, water, sanitation, protection, rule of law, and livelihoods. Our work in these challenging circumstances raises some of the most pressing issues facing contemporary humanitarian action, including access, security, funding, and coordination.
