COOPI

COOPI Cooperazione Internazionale is a secular and independent NGO founded in Milan in 1965. It carries out development projects to contribute to the fight against poverty in particularly degraded areas and emergency programmes to support people affected by natural disasters or conflicts. COOPI is currently present in 33 countries in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean. The main institutional donors are the European Union, UN agencies, the Italian Government, local entities and other European governments.

Description of COOPI in the country

Since 2019, COOPI has established a presence in Venezuela to assist the local population following the worsening of the country’s socio-economic crisis. As of July 2020, it has launched a regional crisis response program implemented in consortium with Venezuelan organizations for the protection of vulnerable groups. In recent years, COOPI has expanded its interventions and is currently implementing projects in the Capital District, Miranda, Sucre, Bolívar and Delta Amacuro in the sectors: Protection (General Protection and GBV), Sexual and Reproductive Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Livelihoods and Food Security.

Within the framework of the project “Multisectoral assistance and vital protection services for the Venezuelan population in situations of greatest vulnerability and risk affected by the crisis in Venezuela”, the intervention aims to improve protection conditions and increase the security and well-being of the Venezuelan population in situations of greatest vulnerability and at risk through the provision of multisectoral protection and assistance services. The organizations of the Consortium will concentrate their actions in nine (9) states of Venezuela: Amazonas, Apure, Bolívar, Delta Amacuro, Distrito Capital, Falcón, Miranda, Sucre, Táchira and Zulia, carrying out activities with interventions in various subsectors of the Protection Sector, including the response to gender-based violence, child protection and psychosocial support (PSS). In addition, it will also include complementary activities in different subsectors of Food Assistance, Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene and Humanitarian Coordination, Information Management and Evaluations.

The objective of the position is to support the implementation of COOPI’s communication strategy in Venezuela for all its projects. The selected person will contribute to increasing the visibility of the organization’s activities, programs and projects, as well as strengthening COOPI’s institutional/corporate image in the country.

COOPI plans to strengthen the communications team by hiring a National Communications Assistant who will be responsible for supporting the communications officer, ensuring compliance with COOPI and donor procedures. The Communications Assistant will ensure that the communication activities of all COOPI projects are carried out effectively and efficiently at the national level, and that the results are systematically evaluated to improve the quality and impact of the interventions.

Areas of responsibility

  1. Support in the Communication Strategy:
  • Assist in the implementation of COOPI’s communication strategy in Venezuela.
  • Collaborate in the planning and execution of communication campaigns.
  • Writing and editing publications for websites and social media.
  • Participate in the creation and updating of monitoring and evaluation plans for the communication strategy.
  1. Content Production:
  • Write and edit press releases, articles, newsletters, information flyers, reports and other communication materials.
  • Create audiovisual content (photographs, videos) to document COOPI activities and projects.
  • Manage and update the content of COOPI’s digital platforms and social networks.
  1. Public relations:
  • Maintain and develop relationships with local and national media.
  • Organize visibility events.
  1. Monitoring and Evaluation:
  • Monitor media coverage and the impact of communication activities.
  • Prepare periodic reports on communication activities and their results.
  1. Graphic Design and Publications:
  • Collaborate in the design of graphic materials for campaigns and publications.
  • Ensure the correct application of the institutional image of COOPI and donors in all communication materials.

Desired profile

ESSENTIALS

  • University degree in a relevant discipline such as Social Communication, Public Relations, Strategic Communication, Journalism, Design, International Relations or related fields.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in communications roles, preferably in the humanitarian or development sector.
  • Knowledge of media management, audiovisual production, campaign management, social media, and editing and design software.
  • Familiarity with the work and strategies of public communications/public relations within civil society.
  • Mastery of MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills to manage workload and deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Mastery of Spanish and intermediate knowledge of English.
  • Immediate availability.

DESIRABLE

  • Previous experience working with international NGOs and institutional donors (United Nations agencies, European Union and the private sector);
  • Knowledge of the English language (valued);
  • Venezuelan nationality or residence permit in the country.
